Hey guys, I have to travel to Philly soon for work. Who has some tips for what I should check out on the gay scene (if I get the chance)? Researching online is always unreliable as stuff gets out of date so quickly, so I'll really appreciate any up-to-date info on where are the hot places to be. I'll likely be there during the week and maybe Sunday (unlikely the big Friday/Saturday nights).

    Thanks,

    Johann

I'm actually curious about this too... I applied for a job in Philly and have been meaning to ask not only about his, but also about the cost of living there.

Well, I can't speak for the clubs anymore. I don't go out much anymore to validly comment. You can always check out , http://phillygaycalendar.com/ . It is usually up to date about goings on. The local community center is the William Way community Center, http://www.waygay.org/.

Cost of living is relative. Philadelphia is much cheaper than Washington DC, New York or Boston. But compared to some 'burbs or small cities it isn't. Beer and alcohol is pricey because of the local PLCB rules and the cities 10% tax.

The Philadelphia scene pretty much has everything to offer that you could want. Honestly this is probably one of the best times during the year to visit. Philly is really great in the spring.

The gay scene in Philly is pretty much self contained in what has been affectionately called "The Gayborhood". The city actually added rainbow colored plaques beneath the regular street signs. Once your there you pretty much can't miss it. There are lots of bars and lounges to hit. That neighborhood actually has some really amazing restaurants too. Amis, Bindi, Lolita, El Vez, Raw, Tria, etc. There are probably 3 quintessential Philadelphia gay bars to not miss. Woodys is the classic pub style gay bar that has a big second floor with a dance floor. Q is your basic queeny lounge. They do make some good fun drinks though. Then there is Voyeur, formally Pure. This is your afterhours warehouse style club. There are lots of place to go other than that, but they seem to be the most popular during the week.

I don't consider myself an expert and I personally don't go out much. Its not really an issue with my desire, I just work a lot and would rather chill with my friends and sleep when I can. Hope you enjoy!

Tavern on Camac. End of story. It's the most popular, best bar in town. I think it's my favorite gay bar in the country.

Woody's is always a good time.

All the bars are within 2 seconds of each other. Good for bar hopping.

OK...I think I am encouraged. If all of the bars are within the same area then it should make like easy and I can do a bit of a trawl until I find what I like. Or who I like! Thank you for the advice, guys.
