How does RealJock compare with other Gay Forum sites?

I feel like this site is very popular. Albeit it's centered around fitness, that seems to be a very common theme in gay culture anyway. Plus there's plenty of forums that aren't fitness related. So it's appeal is very broad.

Is this the main one in the US? Are there others like this? (referring to forums/threads/posts theme not real chat or myspace type places).

This seems to be the best general and cohesive forum/thread site for gays that I've seen so far.

There's a gay networking site in the UK called Jake which also has a forum, but it's not very good!

They do have social events though which I think is a nice addition. I don't go now but when I was a member a few years ago I went to a couple - they tend to be at bars etc but they also have dinners, talks from key business people/celebrities etc.

I think RealJock is good for having that health/fitness slant to it though, shame there isn't a UK equivalent.

I am pleased that their is Realjock and that its different.

Some of the UK sites are ghastly.

Jake is a typical Private club that attempts to look open.

You know, I don't know if this is the main one in the US or not, but it's the one I like best. I actually see some real intelligent discourse here. Even when it gets heated to the point of name-calling, it at least shows passion for something other than "lookit how hot I am."

I've been on a number of other sites in the past, and RJ is the only place I even log into anymore. Partially due to my location (quite nice for finding folks in real life); and partially because I hate keeping up with several profiles.

Blog comment sections are popular gay online hangouts.

Yeah, I hate the name of this site too. It's a little pretentious.

I've lurked the forums at Just Us Boys, and there's not much going on there. It's mostly a place for guys to lust after their favorite porn actors.

Craigslist has a forum too. But it's dying. It's mostly troll and spam posts these days.

Overall, I think the RJ forums are great, in terms of people and topics. But the main thing that kills me is the forum software. icon_confused.gif

I also lurk at JUB and mostly find only the "Hot Topics" forum to be interesting. Frequent flame wars, but sometimes insanely funny and/or worthwhile threads come about.

Yeah I haven't found another gay site that is as good as this one. But yeah the name is pretty meh, I was telling one of my buddies about it once and I said "realjock" and my friend says "Realjock? sounds realgay!" Ah I love my friends.

    yes, it's a bit clumsy ... i wonder what s/w they use . There's no credit given to any package s/w .

and why not vBulletin or SMF like probably 95% of all online communities ?

RJ is definitely my favorite. I'm kind of over how sketchy the other sites are. This is a clean site containing useful information and guys who are interested in, well, more than just sex. Plus, I know that we all at least have a shared interest in fitness.
