Some of you are probably aware, Oprah has launch a campaign to end texting/cell phone use in vehicles. A few states already have laws against such, but most do not.

April 30 is National No Phone Zone Day and Oprah hopes to get the national to sign an agreement to not use your phone while driving. Nearly 500,000 people are injured and 6,000 are killed each year because drivers are talking, texting and e-mailing behind the wheel. I've been witness to several tragedies because of texting while driving - be safe and if you haven't already done so, join me in signing the pledge.

Sign the Pledge by clicking here: http://www.oprah.com/questionaire/ipledge.html?id=4

Also, does the animal even drive or does she have a driver 24/7?

People who text while driving are selfish.
You slow down the current flow of traffic.
    You weave.
You don't use your turn signal.
You're sooooo much more likely to die in an accident and/or more likely to kill someone else. Everyone who does it thinks they can manage it, and probably think others aren't as skilled.
Is a short, meaningless, quickly forgotten bit of communication more important than driving?

You guys are idiots. So because you don't like Oprah you are going to text while you drive? That is what you are saying with your replies. Are you stupid? A recent study showed that texting is more dangerous than duink driving.

I honestly could care less if you text and got yourself killed in a car crash. That would teach you a valuable lesson. The problem is you put other peoples lives at risk and someone else should not have to die or be permanently disabled because of your stupidity and being distracted from the road. Honestly I dont think anyone should be touching their phone while driving. A text or phone call can wait until you reach your destination. Also good for Oprah for trying to make a difference.

This topic has really got me flustered and pissed off.

Well actually Karate, the best app out there in my humble opinion happens to be relevant to this topic.

It is called "DRIVE SAFE.LY"...and it is available on both the iphone and android platforms....and the simple version is free.

    http://www.drivesafe.ly/

What the app does is this:
You turn it ON when you are driving, and when a text message comes in on your phone, it is actually read out loud to you from your speaker on your phone.

What the person texting you gets automatically is a message, which you can customize to say something like.....

"Hi, I just heard your text but I am driving currently so I will get back to you when I can do it safely. Thanks!"

It is a priceless app....and it is FREE ninety FREE. Download it now. Don't wait till April 30th.

This was an excellent post and I am glad Oprah is doing this. I am constantly dealing with idiots on phones crossing over the line into my lane.

Also, I just put four people in this thread on permanent ignore for being such idiots and reckless about this important subject. Sorry JoeB, you're cute, but not that cute. icon_rolleyes.gif

There's a time for humor and there isn't

I don't find your jokes funny on a serious matter such as this, especially how stupid they are

Joking about texting while driving and saying screw Oprah is the exact reason this is being done, to get idiots like you off the road with your phone!!

Living in Atlanta I see it all.
Yes I can text while driving. But I also have smart phones with full keyboards.
I do think one of my favorite gifts is my dual blue tooth. I can talk and keep both hands on the wheel.

LOL. Really? You must be the dumbass I ran off the road the other day because he wouldn't stay in his lane, nor drive the prevailing speed in rush hour traffic! icon_lol.gif

    Oh yeah....by the way...

It's a CAR you are driving, not a phone booth! Hang up and drive, you aren't that talented!

Thanks for supporting fellas - appreciate it. I have quite a few friends who are paramedics, EMTs and firefighters and I get the opportunity to conduct ride-alongs all the time. The accidents I've seen range from fender benders to loses of life and most can be linked to a mobile phone.

One incident brought it home... a child, now an orphan because a teenager couldn't wait to text on her phone. She drove off the road, hit another car. That car hit a baracade, flipped 3 times, killing the parents and leaving a little girl in the backseat with two broken legs and no parents to hold.

I get the jokes and sometimes people need to find the humor in most things - that's okay. And whether or not you like Oprah is your thing. I'm simply trying to pass along a message I hold close to me.

With the advances in technology reaching new heights everyday, there's no reason to pick up a phone while driving.

Thanks again, and remember, "The life you save may be your own."

Yikes, I didn't mean to offend so many people. I was just joking around with my original post in this thread... I don't text while driving. I don't even use my ipod unless I'm stopped at a red light. So, sorry to those I offended. I really didn't mean to.

I still don't like Oprah though, I won't apologize for that.

I don't use my phone while I'm driving, unless I answer a call with my bluetooth on. I drive stick and need both hands.

Anyone remember when phones had cords and all you could do on them was talk?
