I think this movie is still highly underrated. It's one of my favorite story's to come back to and dissect.
The Mysterious and puzzling plot, troubled characters and 80s soundtrack ("Killing moon" and "Head over Heels") kind of stays with you.

I'm still sort of confused about certain elements of the movie.icon_lol.gif

I really liked the film, certainly it was bizzare and left much to interpetation -- the writer would never divulge the "meaning", but recently, with it's new release over the last few years stated what the film was truly about - I was purty dissapointed, lol!
...I won't state what he said, you can always google that info.

But it is a great, thought provoking film and to a degree like watching a slow train wreck.

I'm right with you on this--

Funny, some years ago right after I bought it on DVD, two different friends bought it for me as a birthday gift because they thought I would love it. Instead of telling them and returning it, I gave the copies to other smart people I know.

On of my favorites! It did make me think a lot...way too much. The 80's soundtrack also added to its charm.

LOL umm now I'm kind of afraid to google the true meaning of Donnie Darko. Was it really that bad?icon_surprised.gif

Haha you're right it concluded in a train wreck to a degree it left me with a intrigued but disturbed feeling.

Haha my sister did the same thing. She was initially interested because of the scene with frank the Rabbit. Shortly after she got turned off realizing Donnie Darko wasn't a horror.

I love Donnie Darko! DId you know there's a sequel? Samantha Darko. It's interesting as well. There are some things in it that are awesome, and others that I feel make it not as good. Watch it and decide for yourself.

I still really like the movie, and have both the original and Director's Cuts. VERY disappointed with Director Richard Kelly's other movies: Southland Tales and The Box. I think he's mostly producing now, including an upcoming "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies"

"28 days, 6 hrs, 42 min, 12 seconds, that is when the world will end."

"I guess he was sleep golfing?" "Yeah, watch out for that drool spot."

    Great film.

I heard Donnie Darko was originally about the second coming of Jesus or something along those lines, but that they changed it because they didn't want to involve religion.

Not sure where I even heard that.

I've been a fan of Donnie Darko since I first saw it in middle school. The characters.. directing.. and you already mentioned the soundtrack. All great.

Once it started gaining popularity they made a 2nd part to the movie. ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1231277/ ) It has a couple decent parts but as a whole... kinda sucked. Just like Starship Troopers! The first was an instant classic. The second was a total waste.

Yeah unfortunately I keep hearing the 2nd movie was lacking in a lot of areas.
But I think I may check it out in the future.

I liked it. sometime last year me and my roommate went on a time traveling movie marathon. We didn't get to "back to the future" but we got through the darko's and the butterfly effects.

regardless I liked it, but I think I'm one of the few who liked S. Darko more.
