Stanley Cup Playoffs

Results day 4 into the playoffs:

    Capitals-Canadiens: tied at 1
    Devils-Flyers: tied at 1
    Sabres-Bruins: tied at 1
    Penguins-Senators: tied at 1
    Sharks-Avalanche: tied at 1
    Canucks-Kings: tied at 1
    Coyotes-Red Wings: tied at 1

I could see all of these series being tied at 2 each after 4 games. This year's playoffs seem to involve the most surprising parity between teams that I can remember. What are your predictions? Will Nashville be the exception and jump out to an early lead against Chicago?

Great start to the playoffs, excellent perfomance by every team. Most games decided on overtime or by one goal. I see many series' will be 6-7 games.

The Canucks' OT loss to LA was tough, but it was their game to win. LA came back from a 0-2 deficit to beat Vancouver, thanks to Alberts' many penalties. Luongo still looks good.

Same for Montreal. They had the Caps beat at 4-1, allowing Washington to catch up with 5 goals. Another great OT finish. Now the pressure is on the Habs.

Sharks just lost to the Avalanche on a bizzare goal by O'Reilly with only less than a minute into OT.

Flyers up over the Devils in OT!

My prediction (more like who I'd like to see):

Canucks and Avalanche for the Western Conference finals.
Capitals and the Flyers for the Eastern Conference finals.

Canucks over the Flyers for the Cup.

Kings beat Canucks tonite, Vancouver gave up 3 PPGs---WTF!!!! LA leads 2-1.

The Caps move ahead of the Habs and leads 2-1.

Bruins over the Sabres, leads series 2-1.

The underdogs are showing some teeth. My money is still on the Canucks.

I wonder if all the underdogs win what that will mean for the NHL. I'm not sure a Coyotes-Senators or a Colorado-Montreal final would be a ratings bonanza...

ouch! what is happening with my hawks? they've been anemic, is what. nashville has stymied them and they have not gotten past them. very disappointing given that so many have said this was their year to get to the stanley cup finals.

Good job Senators for forcing Game 6.

What happened to Brodeur? I'm thinking he might not be getting the Vezina trophy this season. The Devils exit early, again.

The other seemingly playoff-cursed team came out big tonight. An impressive 5-0 shutout. I'm thinking San Jose might be running away with this one the next game, if Thornton and co. can repeat this stunning performance, which they should have done the first three games.

After a week of playoffs, it definitely looks like the Western Conference is much more tightly contested, all the series were tied 2-2 after 4 games, while all the Eastern Conference series were 3-1. Flyers dispatched the Devils easily, while Ottawa fought to stay in the running. We'll see if Buffalo and Montreal can do the same thing, and I have more confidence in the Sabres than the Habs. Phoenix-Detroit and Chicago-Nashville seem dead even right now, while Canucks looks to have a slight edge over the Kings if Luongo will come out and play like the star goalie he is.

Flyers are off to the semis. Woo-hoo!!!
    Sharks lead the Avalanche 3-1.
Canucks are tied with the Kings 2-2. Great Game 4! The puck drops at 7PM PST. Luuuuuooooooo!!!!
Bruins are up over the Sabres, 3-1. Currently, Buffalo leads Boston 3-0 on the 3rd of Game 5, with less than 4 minutes left. Boston needs a miracle...
Caps leads the series 3-1. Habs are up 2-1 on the 3rd of Game 5, 8:46 on the clock.

    Go Canucks!
    Go Sharks!

Actually, San Jose leads 3-2, not that it matters that much because if they win game 6 they can put Colorado away.

I'm all for more hockey being played, so I'm definitely rooting for Buffalo and Montreal to close the gap to 3-2 in each series.

On the other hand, go Wings!

The Canucks head back to LA after routing the Kings 7-2 last night!!! Samuelsson scored his 6th and 7th goals of the playoffs, tying two Canucks playoffs records along the way: most goals in one series (7, Pavel Bure) and most consecutive games with a goal (5, Cliff Ronning). All this from a guy who Detroit felt he was "too old and slow" and released. He kicked ass last night!

Vancouver's penalty killing was a sad 7/16 heading into the game, but killed an impressive 4/5 at this outing. Major improvement indeed! Luongo saved 24/26, clearly his best of the series. Also scoring twice was Bernier, with Dan Sedin, Edler, and Demitra each scoring a goal. Since Samuelsson joined the Sedins' on Game 4, their line put out 5 Gs, 8, As, and 13 Ps.

Steve Bernier also scored twice for the Canucks, with linemate Pavol Demitra finishing with a goal and two assists. Daniel Sedin had a goal and an assist, with Alex Edler rounding out Vancouver's scorers.

LA pulled their goalies twice, which really didn't help their cause much. Definitely got dominated by the Canucks in every aspect of the game.

Canucks looked awesome, but hopefully they (especially Luo) can carry this momentum over tomorrow's game in LA. And then on to the semis with the 'hawks or the Preds.

Congrats to San Jose. Looks like the Thornton-Marleau-Heatley line is taking a back seat to the Pavelski line. If they do come out to play in the conference semifinals, perhaps the Sharks will finally earn their #1 seed.

Good job Senators and Avs for fighting to keep it close. For now, no upsets are in order.

The Canucks join the Pens, Sharks, and Flyers in the conference semis. Luongo had 30 saves and is in great form.

The Caps lead the Habs 3-2.
    Hawks over the Preds 3-2.
Sabres over the Bruins also 3-2.
Yotes and Wings are all tied at 3-3.

It's been an exciting playoffs so far!

I blame the Devils for upsetting my prediction pool. I had all the series at at least 6 games...
