What's an unusual first date?

My partner and I are freshly back from a Caribbean cruise where we met a couple of nice guys at the "Friends of Dorothy" meeting. One was from Denver and one was from Chicago and this ten day cruise was the first time they had met. (One is an RJ member, so he may see this Topic and I would encourage him to give his thoughts on the date.) They had met online in December and had communicated regularly since then, online and by telephone...but the first time they met each other was for a ten-day cruise!

Ed & I thought this was very daring of them to have a ten day...same cabin, unable to get away...first date. What are your thoughts? Would you try that? What unusual/remarkable first dates have you had with online friends?

Wow....ten days spending it with someone you just met, that is definitely daring. I honestly don't think I'd be able to do that. But I suppose you would pretty much know by the end of it (if you haven't killed each other) whether or not you want to continue pursuing it.

But yeah like I said, it's very daring. And sadly more remarkable than the dates I've had. Mine have been pretty cookie cutter standard. Maybe I need to be more daring. icon_smile.gif

No worse than booking a cruise by yourself and getting assigned a random roommate.

    Why not?

It's not like you have to do anything more than meet and be friendly.

Does ten days count as one date or 10 dates?
In other words...if they hit it off when they first laid eyes on each other, is it ok to have sex on the first date?icon_biggrin.gif

Actually I've sorta done that, too. Met a guy online, we talked on the phone, exchanged pics over many months. Then I flew 1500 miles to meet him and stay at his place in Houston for 2 weeks. (BTW, he met me at the airport in a limousine, whose driver was the son of the former madame of the Chicken Ranch ["Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"]. He gave us a signed copy of his autobiography about growing up there!)

His place wasn't as restrictive as being on a cruise ship, of course, and I suppose I could have moved into a hotel if it didn't work out (flying back early was problematic since I had a scheduled round-trip ticket). But it was taking a chance, and he didn't have a proper guestroom, so it was his bed or the sofa, and I really didn't know Houston very well, and had no transportation.

We continued to see each other monthly, taking turns visiting the other, until we decided to make it permanent. He became my first partner, until his death.

I've done something along those lines. It went amazingly and I think as long as you've been friends and you've skyped and videochatted, there isn't much that can go differently. Just follow your heart, in my opinion.
