Misinformation. You can get STD's from oral sex (either giving or getting).

All sex has risks. Even phone sex...you can get a crick in your neck.

You can get stuff from oral sex.

Syphilis, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia can all be caught that way - the good news is that those are all highly treatable infections.

Technically HIV can be transmitted orally as well, but it is HIGHLY unlikely. SOME people here will say it cannot be, but its a hot topic of debate and I feel its better to be safe than sorry. Just dont give blowjobs if you notice any cuts in your mouth, dont take the load in your mouth... etc... might help reduce the risk. At an STD clinic, I was told HIV is transmitted through oral sex 1 time out of 10,000 with an INFECTED person.... so, there's the risk level.

All you can do is be careful, be honest, ask questions (its YOUR body! you have the right to ask ur sexual partners questions), and get tested frequently.

Add the following to the list

HPV...Human papillomavirus increases the risk for head and neck cancers. HPV also causes veneral warts, anal cancer, and penile cancer in men. Women develop cervical cancer. Gardasil (a vaccine for prevention) has just been approved for men and boys.
    http://www.cdc.gov/std/hpv/stdfact-hpv-and-men.htm

Herpes the most common STD can be spread from the mouth to the genitalia or vice versa

Hepatitis B....It is inconclusive if the disease can be spread by oral sex. Hepatitis B has the potential to be becomes chronic. Chronic infection may lead to cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer(hepatoma). Both can be fatal. Since anal sex is a risk factor for Hepatitis B, it is recommended that men who have sex with men be immunized. Today most children and select high risk adults are receiving Hepatitis B vaccine routinely. Because of the mass immunizations, the incidence of Hepatitis B is decreasing.

Hepatits A can be transmitted during rimming, and there is potential for Hepatits B to be transmitted this way

Like others have said, there are diseases you can catch from oral sex. There are also diseases you can catch just from skin-to-skin contact.
Certain intestinal parasites as well that the infected person may be unaware of carrying that they caught from someone else.

Since this guy doesn't think one can catch anything from receiving oral sex, that makes me think he really has no clue about safety and diseases, I would consider him high risk.

Um yah maybe you cant get HIV but you sure as hell can get a ton of other things. I know folks that have! If you are afraid of the risk use flavored rubber and put a quarter size amount of lube in the cum nipple. Will feel better.

Oral sex can be hazardous to your health and the health of those around you, so watch the road and drive safely...and let the other guy take care of the cleanup. Oh and don't try it with a stick shift.

Oral Sex? Sure you can catch things! ANYTIME there is an exchange of bodily fluids.

    Here ya go:

The usual suspects: gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, herpes simplex virus I and II (oral and genital), and HIV....yeah, YOU CAN ACQUIRE HIV FROM ORAL SEX!!!!! It happens. There is substantial evidence that HIV is NOT transmitted saliva-to-saliva....but what if you have an open sore and the other person has a cut? Anytime there is a breach of barrier protection (i.e. skin, condom, etc) there is vulnerability and a risk.

The ones you don't always think about: Hepatits A and B, HPV (human papilloma virus) (multiple types...only 4 of which are covered by Gardasil...guys are recommended to get this vaccine since they are the #1 carriers of HPV)
HPV in guys can cause oral warts, anal warts, genital warts, penile cancer, anal cancer, just to name a few.

WEARING A CONDOM DOES NOT PROTECT YOU FROM HPV!!! It is passed on via skin to skin contact...period. So if your partner is wearing a condom and carries HPV around his pubic area, and your ass/lips/whatever touches in that area, you have a chance of contracting HPV.

Also, HPV is very prevalent! About 60-80% of all adults over age 30 likely are carriers. This does NOT mean they will develop symptoms. Since there are over 30 strains of HPV and only 2 strains (that we know) cause cancer and 2 strains (that we know) cause warts, there is a possibility that the HPV type is non-damaging.

Not trying to scare anyone, just trying to be informative. Know your body and be as safe as possible.

At some point, if you want to live a life in this world, you will have to become okay with taking on some minimal amount of risk.

The chances of contracting anything serious from receiving oral sex are very small. For me, it is an acceptable amount of risk. We only have one life, and not one of us is getting any younger, so we should have some fun while we can.

The risk of oral sex is NOT minimal!

When I was 19, a guy went down on me the first time, and I got gonorrhea. I've had it twice in my life.

Many guys think that oral sex is save, but they are WRONG! And because so many guys think it's safe, it can be almost impossible to insist on using condoms.

Someplace on the Internet I read that oral gonorrhea is self limiting, i.e., that it eventually goes away without treatment, like in a couple weeks. However, I have not been able to verify that. I do know that oral gonorrhea often has no symptoms, so a guy can have it and transmit it without knowing it.

RED FLAG: The guy wants to give you oral and says that by you receiving it you can't catch anything. Stay away from this guy just because of his sheer stupidity. If anything THAT'S contagious.

You most certainly can get an STD from receiving and giving oral sex.

How can people be so non-informed when they have an infinite amount of information at their fingertips? We don't live in the stone ages or the late 1800's. It's easily accessible. Again, I say stay away from this guy because he sounds like the type of person who would give you something you can't return.

    Stds - yes

HIV- very very very rare. Most doctors speak of theoretical risk and actual risk. Actual risk is minimal. Even if you have a cut in your mouth, the saliva seems to neutralise the HIV virus so its rare.
