Hmm...I think I see the real reason for the attack.
And I can see the "gay panic" legal defense already. (Or is there a specific "lesbian panic" defense as well?) Any bets these girls will get off with a wrist slap at most?
We'll see. The charge against the two adults is attempted murder. The victim was able to record some of the incident on her cell phone and her mother seems to think what's there shows this as a hate crime. If this is swept under a rug, we'll see if the federal hate crime law is worth anything.
The new Federal hate crime legislation has no teeth. I predict nothing will come of this. Plus I anticipate a Republican Congressional landslide in November, so the new gay hate crimes bill will be repealed, over an Obama veto. These women will walk, even be hailed as Christian heroes in Kentucky. Expect to see more instances of these attacks against gays & lesbians, encouraged & endorsed by Republicans. (If indirectly and underhandedly, as Republicans typically operate, through surrogates like FOX News, Teabaggers, fundamentalist Christians, and others from the radical right)
