Most people like a good cover. Good is underlined because we all know we've heard terrible, horrendous cover's of some of our favorite's.

I'm talking almost, if not better than the original, songs. What's your random cover that's a guilty pleasure...or do you not even care for covers and think bands/artists should stick to doing their own, original music?

"Hide And Seek" from Imogen Heap

"Since U Been Gone" from Kelly Clarkson

Tori Amos' cover of Real Men (Joe Jackson) was good, especially if you can't get into the off beat sound of Joe and TLC's If I was your Girlfriend was a decent cover of Princes' (I never got into him).

But my favourite all time covers are on the Split EP of Hot Water Music and Alkaline Trio. They covered each others' songs and did each other good.

I like most of the covers Jamie Cullum has done,
And Alicia Keys makes some good ones too. I really like "wild horses" from her unplugged cd (duet w Adam Levine)

Tori amos has some great covers, she has a way of taking some one elses song and making it her own. Father figure, dont look back in anger, teen spirit, a WHOLE album of songs wrote about woman sung by men.

Ani difranco doing Prince's when doves cry is GREAT!

Blur has a few cover songs too that are good.

Once you get past the corny beginning (though privately I would lipsynch that part too....but I'll deny that if confronted), Lisa Fischer's version of Skylark's Wildflower with the assist from Luther is stellar. I just love her voice.

Linda Ronstadt covering Tracks of my Tears, OH Baby, Baby, Heatwave, just about anything and everything she ever recorded from the Great American Song Book.

She makes them her own, and as I recall, outsells the originals.

To me, she is the true original and having seen her perform various times, she never, ever disappoints.

I'm a big Billy Idol fan, which is unapologetically 80s, but I think his version of "Mony Mony" is better than that of Tommy James and the Shondelles. I think its one of the few songs where the cover may be better than the original.

Also a great running song, for those that are interested.

Across The Universe. Fiona Apple did a pretty good cover, mainly because she didn't add much to it and kept the original mood.

    Original by The Beatles

They didn't wait years to do a cover and was released almost at the same time as the original.

What may be the best Leonard Cohen cover ever.
