When will we ever learn. They can't seem to turn it off. I guess the new slogan should be Kill-Baby-Kill. All of that ocean life dying as we speak.

While I do not like the idea that much ocean life may die, I am honestly more concerned about the loss of those eleven guys who were on the rig when it exploded. icon_sad.gif

Definitely demonstrates the disastrous effects of being conciliatory to the right wing by offering carrots so they'll go along with an energy plan.

That's not how you negotiate. Nobody in his right mind, at least. Fuck, these democrats are a disaster. They are their own worst enemies.

You can't always blame the dealer. The junkie has to take part of the blame. We use that oil. Well, we would have.

I agree. Human life is much more important than any sea animal that is for sure.

Bah, baloney. It's hard to find fish that doesn't contain a ton of poison. Human life is so abundant that we can kill it by the thousands in a day and it doesn't make too much of an impact on the population.

    Perhaps someone can explain this:

"President Barack Obama’s plan to allow expanded offshore oil and gas exploration won rebuke from the top House Republican on Wednesday.

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) dismissed the president’s plan as not going far enough in opening up U.S. waters for exploration."

    and this one is interesting...

    http://blogs.reuters.com/commodity-corner/2008/06/20/bushs-offshore-drilling-proposal/

    "
    Bush’s offshore drilling proposal
    Jun 20, 2008 10:32 EDT
    offshore drilling

President George W. Bush urged Congress this week to end a ban on offshore oil drilling, responding to consumer anxiety over soaring gasoline prices. Bush said opening federal lands off the U.S. coast — where oil drilling has been banned by both a presidential executive order and a congressional moratorium — could yield about 18 billion barrels of oil. That would meet current U.S. consumption for about 2 1/2 years, but it would likely take a decade or more to find the oil and produce it.

The following is a map showing the offshore areas at issue. Click here for a more detailed, high-resolution version from the U.S. Minerals Management Service, which manages the nation’s natural gas, oil and other mineral resources on the outer continental shelf."

...and you should click on the link and see the map....BOTH oceans, The Pacific and the Atlantic.

Only in your mind. I'm thankful not everyone thinks the way you do.

I'd argue that many sea animals - especially sea mammals - are far more important to the health and well being of this planet than anything done by those 11 guys while they were alive.

hmmm, since EVERYTHING seems to be turned to a political battle on here (obama being blamed and targeted for something that was inevitable anyway[p.s. the rigs were there before he was in office])... what are your thoughts on the Exxon Valdez Disaster? Is everyone gonna blame that on Bill Clinton's love for jazz, or the West Virginia mine collapse being blamed on Michelle Obama's contribution to organic gardening... [erroneous, but thats exactly whats going on here]? Yeah, i may be an asshole for this post (but im a bottom, so im a big enough asshole) .

    This is too funny..

wrestler says this, "When will we ever learn. They can't seem to turn it off. I guess the new slogan should be Kill-Baby-Kill. All of that ocean life dying as we speak." and southbeach adds this, "And don't forget, President Obama just opened vast tracts off the Gulf and East Coasts of the USA to drilling."

...which anyone can see is telling wrestler to point a finger at Obama.

THEN southbeach says he's all for it (drilling) when he's challenged.

    Sloppy.

I'm pointing my finger at a country that should have got its act together after the 70's oil embargo, regardless of President.

What are we getting? $35,000-$40,000 overpriced electric cars. Until they bring those down to the low $20s, you won't see me buying one.

We got that right away on your first post. All we had to do was look here:

    http://www.google.ca/search?q=history+of+louisiana+oil+rig&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=FEm&sa=G&rls=org.mozilla:en-USicon_surprised.giffficial&channel=s&tbs=tl:1&tbo=u&ei=Q_LWS_jzAYPitgPFtdnuAQ&oi=timeline_result&ct=title&resnum=13&ved=0CCgQ5wIwDA

...we could see that this had nothing to do with Obama, and so pointed out some interesting spin-doctoring by southbeach.

There is no reason to make this all political. Bottomline: We need oil. We do not want to be beholden to the middle east, or anyone, for that oil forever. So, unless we want to stop consuming so much oil, we need to drill and keep drilling. Accidents happen, it's the nature of the beast.

Well now that's an amazing feat! Must be the new "liberal logic" at work:

I wrote that I am supportive of Obama's recent decision to expand offshore drilling, then you wrote that I am against anything Obama does.

Your extremely high intelligence is beyond my comprehension.... icon_lol.gif

Nowhere in your original post - the one to which I was replying - did you say anything supportive about President Obama.

The only copy contained in that post follows:

"And don't forget, President Obama just opened vast tracts off the Gulf and East Coasts of the USA to drilling."

    # # #

The sarcasm in your response was evident. You can insult my intelligence as much as you'd like. I'm a big boy. I can take it, but I do have to point out your blatant disregard for the content of your own post. In other words, if you're going to offer a rebuttal, make sure it's on point.

Do I need to spell it out for you? Apparently so.

    * Oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico for years.

    * Republicans (and Democrats in districts that depend on those rigs for their economy) have supported the drilling for years.

    * Democrats (whose districts are nowhere near those rigs) oppose offshore drilling.

    * Candidate Obama opposes offshore drilling.

    * Republicans consistently support offshore drilling.

    * President Obama supports offshore drilling.

    * Oil rig in Gulf of Mexico sinks.

I'm not going to play games with you. How does any of what you've listed address my latest post? What reason do you have to veer off course? My latest reply was in reference to your first sarcastic post in this thread, and nothing more.
