When I logg onto the web, or when I turn on my TV, I always see "Lady GaGa" At first I didn't think to much of it. I just thought... "Oh another Rhiana, only with a horse face." However she is almsot being worshiped? This "woman" is being apraised with bringing talent and theatrics into the music industry? I did my research. Before she was GaGa, she was Stefani, and Stefani was a normal girl. Yes she plays the piano, but so do other artists? She's no virtueoso? This "person" is really beginning to irk me. Everyone is being compared to her, whether it is Madonna, Michael J, or even Christina Aguilera. She really doens't impress me. These stunts she pools, are all just attention acts. Yet she calls them "art". I don't find her to be ingenius, I will give her indifferent, but nothing more. Her music is catchy but it all seems to be a basic rhyming pattern, and she constantly is in the "Ma ma, Rah Rah, Gah Gah, Eh eh, La La, Ya Ya" *boring* ALSO, Im hearing she is being called the face of the "gay generation" WHAT??!! I don't even want to begin to elaborate...just NO.....Wipe off all that makeup, pull of her wig, take of those hideous clothes, and she is nothing special.....go away GaGa...icon_neutral.gif.

Not everybody has to like her, I don't like britney spears, and that doesn't mean she is bad.

I LOVE gaga I love everything about her. She is the freshest pop act in years. Id be glad if she was considered my spokesperson, especially in one of those crazy ridiculous outfits. I would like to dress like that everyday, but would likely be killed lol

People like lady gaga because she is talented, a great voice and one of the best performers ever. I don't really like her because of her voice (it's just my tastes.) but I love the fact that she sings so good on live. And her acoustic performances are always surprising me.
And then my friends like her especially because she's crazy and she's not afraid to show it. Come on who else wear Alexander Mcqueen that much haha.

She just keeps us entertained. She just doesn't have to shave her head or make a sextape unlike certain people.
I'm saying that but I love Britney and Paris ;)

Lady Gaga is popular because she reflects a desire that the pop scene has had for a while. Sure, pop music has always been somewhat catchy.. but a lot of people wished it had more depth. Pop had become a symbol of what's wrong with country--any no talent hack that gives the right producer a bj could get a synthesizer and a record deal, and have all sorts of money because of entirely predictable and empty (But fun) music.

Pop culture also had a hand in the cliques of high school. Vapid, horny cheerleaders, trendy boys, and all their ilk had no sympathy or reason to even consider the value of "artists". Wear weird clothes, get made fun or. Cheerleaders had the monopoly on being a slut, but anyone else that did it would catch hell for it. They might as well have built a two-foot thick iron wall between "us" and "them".

Then, there's Lady Gaga. She's a pop star, but she's also an artist (And no, not all gay men know what a real artist or real art is). She's popular, but unpopular. She's a symbol of shallow culture, but she's also a stabbing attack on shallow culture. Whose side is she on, the weirdos or the popular crew? Or is she the only girl with big enough balls to try both at once?

What reasons did we have to like pop stars in the old days--we liked who we were told, we liked who was the hottest, we liked who they played for us on the radio. When you think of how many empty, worthless pop stars we have labelled as "all that", we never questioned it.

See, Britney Spears was an empty figurehead, a dumb blonde who cluelessly went wherever her producers and her industry told her--and yet, people followed her since the 90's. Lady Gaga has been behind the scenes all along, creating music and ideas for other people. Now, she has taken it upon herself to give us something new. It gives pop people some depth, and it makes art freaks mainstream. She's bridging the gap between real art and shallow pop "art".

I dunno, maybe you had to have been a freak in high school to really get behind anything but her catchy tunes. For us, she's like a ray of hope.. hope that pop culture isn't entirely lost, hope that we have as big a chance to become wealthy and popular as all the empty and stupid trendy folks like Britney and JT. Hope that we can be artistic in public and not be ashamed of it.

Anyway, that's why I like Lady Gaga. The best part about her, though, is that she covers so many different niches that there are plenty of other reasons to like her, too.

I think she's brilliant, I love her music and style, you never know what she's going to do next. She's a great performer and her concert was amazing.

I also think she's a great role model in many ways, and a good spokesperson for LGBT rights.

If you don't like her, then that's fine, there's plenty of other artists out there to enjoy!

when someone finally reaches legitimate fame...people then wants to tear them down for whatever reason..it is what it is deal with it. Instead of giving hatred towards the ones you dislike like, give feedback to the ones you do like icon_idea.gif

there's a difference between not liking a musician and feeling the need to tear someone down in front of other people to find others who can reinforce your feelings. so stop being a whiny bitch who is looking for affirmation. and for the record, if you knew anything about art, music, or film theory, you'd know why she is actually rather talented and admired by people. for instance, did you know bad romance is written in iambic pentameter or that her music videos are one of the most complex works of mise en scene out there? try learning a thing or two about her besides what you read on wikipedia before claiming to know it all.

If you're going to trash her, you could at least be bothered to get her lyrics right to show you've actually listened to her work... otherwise, how have you managed to properly form an opinion of her?

    Log has 1 "G"

"However she is almost being worshiped?" Was that a question?

"the stunts she pools" I think you meant 'Pulls'

    *Doesn't*

"I don't find her **ingenious**, but **different**"
(the word Indifferent does NOT fit here)

    2 F's in "OFF"

Not to mention disastrous misuse of commas...

    Now to the topic:

Gaga is popular because she knows what people want. The basic rhythm pattern is easy to listen to, and easy to dance to, not to mention, the key that she chooses is in most every one of her fans vocal range, so they can all sing along. Like someone posted earlier, she's bringing back the head-tilted-in-confusion look that pop music has missed since the 80's (a la Cindy Lauper in her prime). She knows what the general populous wants...and how to give it to them. Just shut up and enjoy it...or not... either way, Hooked on phonics will work for you icon_wink.gif

Lady Gaga, like pretty much every major pop star before her, isn't for everybody. However, for those who get her, she is everything a pop star should be, and she delivers the goods over and over again. I have no doubt she will be around reinventing herself and entertaining her fans for many years to come. I always look forward to seeing what she will do next.

Lady Gaga knows how to play to people's wants, desires, fetishes, etc. She knows how to play the system. If you look at the differences between her "Fame" and "Fame Monster" albums, specifically her "Bad Romance" video (which I believe is now the most watched video EVER on youtube), she is being quite frank about what it takes to become a star in the music industry. She's exposing the music industry and fame for what they really are...things you must sacrifice yourself for in order to attain, both of which often make that person a monster in his/her pursuit.

She's creative. Is she the next Madonna? Who cares. She's herself. I don't really think she's necessarily trying to be like anyone else. She definitely more eccentric than her predecessors, for those of you who'd liken her to Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. Oh, and by the way, Britney Spears never had much talent. She had a hot body and an annoying nasal tone...then she got fat, shaved her head, and now is hot again and singing songs that basically say "you made me this way, so fuck you". Christina is amazing and always will be. She has talent. A lot of it. Gaga has a good voice (especially when she's not straining it to be more creative). She has ingenuity. But most importantly, she gets people to notice her. So to answer the question of "is she really all that".....yes. Or you wouldn't be paying attention. icon_smile.gif

THIS in itself is friggin amazing! She really is poetic, in that she really DOES have a reason for each and every sound and word she creates in her music. If you don't look for it, you may not see it and just think of it as another 'club song'....which is good, too.

Wild outfits... love it! I don't want a performer in jeans and a T. That's boring, and for everyday life. So she likes music and fashion. Musicians are not ONLY supposed to be musicians and nothing else. People are dynamic. I am an artist and a swimmer, but don't want to pick one over the other. Rock on Gaga.

does she write her own Music? ( honest question there) and I doubt she wrote the videos shes been in. if she didnt she cant take claim for what if any art might be in them

that said.. I do think she has a voice.. not the best and darn sure not the worst.. but she sounds better live than 98 percent of the singers out there. Mixing boards are the miracle of the music industry. LOL.

I even like a few of her songs. and I listen to Country most of the time LOL

how ever after seeing her on a few Talk shows. I dont think she is brilliant or even bright.. she came across as dumber than a bag of bricks. but maybe she wasnt comfortable. Ill at least consider that.

ten years from now will tell you whether she is great or not. when the hype fades and if the music remains.

and Pat Benetar is still the Goddess of Rock.

for you younger folks.. look up some Music from Berlin.. like Sex Im a. or Metro. they had some great music at the time.

and wild. Back in the Eightys wild was Wendy O williams of the plasmatics.. Gaga is almost tame in comparison LOL

I really like her music but I sort of DISLIKE her. I think she is a fake bitch who thinks she is all that.

And for people saying Britney has never had control over her music, um - her best albums so far "In The Zone" and "Blackout" were heavily controlled by Britney herself, including MANY writing credits to her songs and executive producer to the albums.
