Wisconsin leads nation in
returning Census forms,
Oshkosh has 84 percent
return rate

April 28, 2010

MILWAUKEE (AP) - The U.S. Census Bureau director
says Wisconsin led the nation in returning 2010
Census forms.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Census
Director Robert Groves says Wisconsin deserves
congratulations for its 81-percent return rate.
Nationally, 72 percent of households returned the
forms.

While Groves called Wisconsin’s display of civic
participation "incredible," the state actually fell 1
percent short of its 2000 response rate.

Several Wisconsin cities bested the state rate. In
Appleton and Eau Claire, 85 percent of households
returned forms. Oshkosh had an 84 percent return
rate and Green Bay, 83 percent. Milwaukee lagged at
68 percent.

The 2010 Census kicks into overdrive on saturday
as hundreds of thousands of census takers hit the
streets to complete the count.
