I recently got additional piercings, but this piercerer gave me some information that was kind of new to me. He said I can't exercise, drink alcohol or have sex for two weeks to minimum the risk of infection. I can kind of understand that sex increases the risk of infections, and that alcohol inhibits the healing; but I don't quite understand and didn't ask why exercising is not recommended? I even asked if slight jogging is okay but he said no; what effect does exercising have on healing/infecting?

I would say it matters what you had pierced. For example, it's probably not a good idea to go running with a fresh nipple piercing. Unless you put band-aids over them. I'm no doctor, it just seems like common sense to me. Sweat on a fresh piercing can't feel good.

You could work out, it would just slow the healing process. It's the same thing when you're sick. Working out is the process of damaging muscles, and then the body works to repair making them stronger and what not. When you have an injury, like a piercing, the body can only focus so much energy on repairing both insults. So it will slow the healing process making your more susceptible to infection.

Plus as you sweat it could get into the newly pierced hole bringing bacteria, viruses and other contageons with it creating an infection. You should also stay out of the ocean and any pools or hot tubs or steam rooms or saunas for at least two weeks.
