A Gum Graft

Because of receding gums on several of my lower teeth, I'm having a gum graft done where they will cut a piece of skin from the roof of my mouth and sew it onto my gums.

Has anybody had this done ?
Is there a better alternative ?
Any advice (other than, "Don't brush your teeth so aggressively, and don't use a toothbrush that has hard bristles") ?

I have receding gums behind my lower front teeth that was caused by the lingual frenum being too tight. I was told that 90% of gum grafts done in that location fail, so a surgeon cut the lingual frenum on each side of the salivary ducts to prevent the gums from receding any further.

Yes, I 've had gingival grafts done about 12years ago. It was very successful but the pain was quite intense for about a week afterward.

    Worth it, considering the alternative.
