I don't use any sort of music while I'm at the gym. Whatever is on the loudspeaker is what I hear. I don't need such external motivation icon_smile.gif Too much hassle to carry around cords and something expensive and breakable that you have to preload with stuff that takes even more time to do. Plus you make yourself unapproachable since you're tuned out and more likely to injure yourself since you can't hear.

I like being tuned out and somewhat unapproachable when I'm at the gym. I only got my first mp3 player a couple of months ago and love it. I have all my Motown faves, my jazz faves and plenty of piano and organ concertos as well as a couple of opera/operettas. I actually listen to the piano and organ concertos the most when I'm working out. You'd think that livelier pop music would give you a boost but I've found that more relaxing classical music works for me.

I have to have faster hard rock or metal to get pumped. A few favorites:

    "Better Days" Cromwell
    "Snot" Snot
    Anything Lamb of God
    "Become the bull" Atreyu
    some Bad Religion
    a couple Chimaira tunes
    older Deftones, anything from "Adrenaline"
    older Sevendust, anything from "Home"
    Most Killswitch Engage
    Most All That Remains
    Most Pantera
    older Slipknot

I love all kinds of music. But when a slow blues tune comes on, it doesn't make me feel like leg pressing 500 lbs, you know?

For a long time it was Tiesto's In The Dark. I'm going through a phase now with stuff from The Killers - Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me etc.

I workout best in complete silence...well except for the a/c and a couple fans blowing.

DITTO! I don't want to hear ANYTHING when I'm exercising. Just the sound of my breathing. Period.

I prefer silence at the gym too; it let's me focus on breathing and form. But the gym usually has some growling bears grunting with every lift, and I just can't stand to hear that. So when they show up I grab my slacker g2 and listen to a trance station. If I'm running or biking outdoors I don't listen to anything but nature.

I find upbeat music helps, especially punk rock, like the Ramones:

    or Green Day:

But anything upbeat, like Mony, Mony which was first done by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1968:

Not a big fan of their songs in english, however я сошпа с ума is one of my favorites.

As for my stuff, Armin van Buuren's "going wrong" is one of my favorite gym songs.
