Waxing my whole body during my first ever solo trip to Europe? Needs advice :(

    Hello everyone,

Well, this summer I'm planning to take my first solo trip to Europe for about 5-6 weeks. Humbly speaking, I am a good-looking guy and have been quite fortunate in this regard, but sadly I am very, VERY hairy (especially for my age) icon_cry.gif. This has always lowered my self-esteem a lot as a teenager, and I never felt comfortable with my body because of all the body hair. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that a bit of body hair is sexy, but for me it just has always been too much (and now I'm only 18 years old). And this has always prevented me, for example, from taking a shower at public restrooms or from freely changing clothes in front of friends, and I never wear too short pants, neither short swimwear because it would look ugly (which annoys the hell out of me because I would love to wear some). As you can also guess, this issue has always disturbed my sex life as I would feel that I need to do some "arrangements" and trimming some hair off before having sex (I can never have it spontaneously).

So, since I'm taking this trip alone, I was thinking of waxing my whole body at some salon during my firsts days of my arrival so I can enjoy the rest of my trip doing whatever I want and wearing whatever I want. I do shave my body sometimes and it looks MUCH better when I do, but I never tried waxing. I would like to try it in order to get a smoother look and because it normally lasts much longer than shaving.

My problem is that I'm not sure how much does it take for the hair to grow back and I'm afraid that when I come back home my parents and family would notice (trust me, that would be very awkward - and they don't know that I'm gay). I believe that the one thing they would notice most are my arms and hands, since I never shave them, but I can't just leave those alone since it would be very weird to wax all my body including the legs but without the arms...

What do you think I should do? Have you ever tried waxing? If so, how was your personal experience with it? I know this thread might look a bit ridiculous to you, but for me this has always been of a big matter icon_sad.gif If I were living alone or studying abroad, for instance, I wouldn't think twice before taking this step; it would make my life much easier, seriously.

    Any comments are welcome icon_wink.gif

Dude, if it's your first time waxing don't do it the day you arrive in Europe. You need to do it at least a week before. Most likely, you'll get some irritation the next day. And if it's hot in Europe your sweat won't help matters.

Why not try waxing your legs, back (including your ass) and chest (pubes hurt). You can just trim the hair on your arms.

I keep the pubes and legs trimmed down. Don't have problem with my back. And I simply shave my chest during the summer months. Waxing lasts longer so it's a good way to go. Don't forget to wax your eye brows too!

As a swim coach , who has team members that wax often. Whatever you do don't wax the day of arriving in Europe - get it done in the USA at least a week before you leave. Be prepared for bruising and skin irritation. I also would not recommend getting the entire body done all at once. OUCH! icon_eek.gif

Buy some bikini zone in bulk and use it liberally, because you don't want to be going around with ingrown hairs and irritation that could last up to a month. Trust.

Why not make this the holiday where you wear what you want. do what you want, and remain hairy? Get that tan happening. Hairy + tan = very hot.

I agree with Brady. Ingrown hairs itch like a mofo. I trim instead.

As someone from ‘Europe’ I would say wait a few weeks until you see what other guys are doing.

You'll be surprised, sorry to say this but guys waxing their bodies is a purely American thing, the hairier the better (in the right places) when it comes to most European countries.

Do your back if you must, but DO NOT arrive onto a European beach with waxed legs, you will be laughed off.

    Just being honest.

Why not go crazy and just get yourself clippered? Clippered is just as hot, as it leaves a bit of hair, but it will also grow softly back over the next 5-6 weeks leaving you hairy enough to come home, but manicured enough for the time you are over there.

A full body wax might be a bit extreme if it is your first time and you want the hair to come back, and you have a lot of hair. Some body types are nto used to such extremes.

Most of Europe like clippered hair on a man, although Eastern Europe tend to be a little more hairless... IMO. Scandinavian places seems 50/50.

Thanks guys for the replies =)

Believe me I would've much preferred it if I had been normally hairy, and I would never have thought of waxing, but it's just not how it is in my case. I mean for most guys, including the hairy ones, the frontal upper part of the body has hair on the chest and downwards towards the belly (usually forming a line). But I have hair EVERYWHERE on my frontal side - chest, the whole way downwards, belly, the near sides of the belly, the whole of it is covered in black hair. The division of body hair on most guys is not that way.

And yes, regarding the legs, I do agree that guys should have some hair on their legs, and that could be much sexier, but here again I have lots of black long hair that cover my skin, and that could NO WAY look hot in brief swimwear or in short pants (and no, I don't want to deal with what I have, I want to enjoy what I can have by doing whatever it takes).

Anyway, just like you guys pointed out, I might really consider having the wax a few days before my trip and not during the trip. Though I was thinking that it would be much more easier for me to do it while I'm all alone, abroad, than while staying at home. I have heard before that one should avoid exposure to the sun for 24 hours after the wax, not anymore than that. So that's why I thought that I wouldn't mind spending only one of my days in Europe fully dressed and itching, for the sake of the other 35 or so days left.

If it will make you happy to have the hair gone, then do it.

Here's my advice on waxing: don't!

Seriously though, the only acceptable place to wax is your back if it's excessively hairy, and your ass if you want a baby-smooth effect. Everywhere else should just be clippered down. It will look much better, is far easier to maintain, and has no side effects.

    Men with waxed legs? Urgh!

Dude just clip it. Have a buddy help, use a number 1. Why wax? Maybe im retarded but I never understood a guy waxing or shaving his body smooth like a chick.

    Don´t wax!

You might react badly to it like I do and come out in millions of spots. SO hot for your european trip icon_rolleyes.gif

Do what I do (I am also a gorilla man on the front): get a pair of clippers with the clever little guards. Pits and pubes at 12 or 9 mm (if you like short look there), chest same, 3 mm to clear the jungle, leave a stairway to heaven, which if your body is like mine will still show when 3 mm long. You can use the blade with no guard to go smoother. No ingrowing hairs! Happiness. If you decide you like the smoother look you can do something mroe permanent, if you don´t like it so much it will be gone in a few weeks.

    Problem solved.

unless you are a weight lifter about to pose on stage; i see NO need for complete body hair removal.

i find body hair extremely sexy and masculine; as does many other gay men!

recent gay porno flicks show a trend towards the return of body hair.

trim it, sure....remove it all? no way! show off and enjoy what is uniquely yours! icon_cool.gif

If it really bothers you as much as you say, why don't you just save up some money and have laser hair removal? That will last you years. I don't know if it hurts or not, but could be an option.

I've gotten my glutes and my chest waxed, and I would HIGHLY recommend some other form of depilation for the chest, or just go when you're really drunk. I was in so much pain and even though I did it so I could go out and tan, my chest had so many little pimples that I was scared for people to see it. It's been a week and the pimples are gone, but the hair is already back.

trim your arms and legs with #1 clipper.
    shave your back and chest/stomach
use a hair trimmer on your rear
buy excess hair bleaching kit at CVS and bleach your legs and arms.
get a professional eyebrow wax (but DONT get Sharpie Eyebrows!! If the person giving the wax is a Gaysian or Latino with pencil thin eyebrows pointing up at the ends like a Vulcan RUN AWAY. Trust me... I once had it done at a place like that and I could not go outside for a week!

If you do all the above you will look a lot less hairy, and your arms and legs will look more natural. You can touch up your back and chest every other day if you shave with the direction of hair gowth. It will leave a little stubble, but that can be hot. Then after a three days shave against the direction of growth for a closer shave. This way you dont get ingrown hairs on your chest.

Its a lot of maintenance, but you will be more confident. Waxing everything just looks like you had every waxed. But leaving a little hair here and there and doing what you can to minimize it and you will still look like a MAN.

This seems like a very sound advice! Honestly I never thought about bleaching, but this could actually be quite a good solution. I wanted to trim from the first place but trimmed black hair doesn't look really nice, it just looks like it has been shaved and that the hair started to grow back coarse. But then like you said, bleaching might give it the more natural look.

Anyhow my eyebrows I think I will leave alone icon_smile.gif they look fine just as they are right now.

    Well, thanks a lot!!!

finder, there are more than a few gay guys out there who would admire and envy you for your body hair.

don't buy into this "Smooth" Myth! body hair is coming back into style and desireability.

please don't listen to the "go with the flow" envious/hating smooth queens out there.

Wait until you arrive there. Check out what what the other guys are doing, in the place where you are. It's like a swimsuit -- you buy locally, once you see what the fashion is there, so you blend in. Make sense?

I waxed my chest once and my skin was irritated for a month...
Not the norm, but, personally, I'd wax well ahead of europe to see how you react and what you like/don't like and *then* get it done again shortly before your trip.

Especially if you're as hairy as you say you might want to see how it all works out before you're stuck that way on vacation. Just a suggestion.

(I'd also add (A) by all means de-hair if that's the look you like, but I definitely wouldn't be shy in public restrooms, gyms, etc. Believe me I've seen and slept with guys who I can almost guarnatee are at least as hairy as you. It's just another look and can be cool--as long as you're not embarassed by it (that always come across). (B) Not only gay guys wax/shave. Let your folks know you waxed. They might be annoyed at your sensibilities, but straight guys do that too. If it helps you can even argue for European peer pressure. I wouldn't stress over this.)
