Happy "Slink-o de Mayo". The day citizens of the US celebrate a little-celebrated holiday of a country whose citizens slink across our borders illegally.icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh, and let's not hurt their feelings, either.

Looks like the school board disagrees with that Principal. Of course, that many students suddenly wearing US flag items on Cinco de Mayo Day suggests they were making an anti-Mexican statement. I wonder if they also wear US flags on the Fourth of July (despite school being out on Summer recess).

I dont own an American Flag shirt myself, but if I choose to wear it on Cinco De Drinko I fucking will and dare someone to say something to me about it.

I drink Irish whiskey on May 5 and I drink Mexican beer on St Pattys day.

Yes I know....I am anti Irish and Mexican.

No you are doing as you see fit. That doesn't make you anti Mexican, anti Irish or anti anything.

Doing WHAT fit? Did they wear US flags the day before? Or on any other day? Why just on THIS day, May 5th?

No, they were making a statement. Which they are free to do, in my opinion. But to pretend otherwise is disingenuous, to say the least. It was an anti-Mexican gesture, and let's not play games about it, OK?

Now whether the Principal's reaction was appropriate is another matter, which evidently the school board finds troubling.

i found this post odd due 2 the fact that Cinco falls on Saturday this year. this is from last year, so why bring it up now?

the courts held in November 2011 that the school was correct in asking the students to leave, due 2 an ongoing "ethnically charged atmosphere" where violence flared in the past. furthermore, comments from the involved students seem 2 indicate that the clothing was worn as provocation. thus the court held that there was "reasonable fear" of further violence at Live Oak HS.

edit: sorry, didn't notice this was necro'd

I'm over this sort of news... I really am

kids got sent home from school ALL THE BLOODY TIME when I was there for a variety of offenses... for having porn magazines, shaving lines in their hair, making out in the custodial closet, smoking, pinching girls bras from the locker room and running up a flag pole, streaking through a classroom etc...

Now it seems to be a case of news vans screeching up on the playground Mr and Mrs 'I wish he'd shower and she would shave her legs and pits" crying fowl that lil timmy/johnny is having their right to make a political statement trampled on

It's not a coincidence because they all decided to wear it on May 5th. They were doing it to make an anti-Mexican statement. It's disrespectful to make a racist statement on a Mexican-themed holiday when we are supposed to respect all races in our country. Because this is high school, though, a bunch of kids there do stupid, ignorant things that they think are funny like dissing another race or culture. Yes, we all have a freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean we should abuse it and talk smack on the other races, groups, and cultures. To those who support this practice, I ask you this: Would you be okay if there were a group of people in a gay pride parade wearing anti-gay shirts and waving anti-gay posters and picket signs?icon_confused.gif

Yes! Americans should wear the Union Jack or the flag of England on Independence Day. Latin Americans should do the same with the Spanish flag on their independence days.
