    Hey Guys,

Trying to come up with a good playlist for my iPod. Need some song suggestions with good beats that are up tempo to help keep me motivated while working out.

    Any suggestions?

my suggestion is going to be kinda off topic, but still could help ya

    go to pandora.com
start a station with the songs (upbeat tempo) that you like

meanwhile, it automatically finds others that are similar that you might like -
it works three ways using calculus equations and a set of 400 musicologists and their reviews of every song with 400 questions...

check it out...it's a great way to get to know new stuff (and older stuff, and learn more about the artists that are in your 'hot lists'

Major Lazer is essential. And some Basement Jaxx. Calvin Harris. And Datarock. There's a start.

That's a hard question to answer without a little more information about what kind of music you like, or perhaps just as important, what kind of music you DON'T like. Also, is most of the music you already have a collection of singles or do you like albums and the overall work of certain artists?

I personally find most of the club music played in aerobics/spin classes stiflingly boring after a song or two. For me, that kind of stuff is actually a de-motivator. It's like drinking high fructose corn syrup, sure you get a little mechanistic reflex rush but there's no real staying power or satisfaction. Same thing goes for a gym with the radio tuned to the local Metal station. I like some thrash and some hardcore thrown in, but an hour of successive rich white male rockstars screaming in gravel-produced voices about The Dark Pit Of The Human Soul interspersed with ads to buy newer fancier material goods gets ridiculous after a while.

In the gym I'm much more of a "warm sounding groove" person than a "Hi-NRG techno" person. My workout playlist is roughly 600 songs and covers a moderately wide range. I experience a hard workout as relaxing and therapeutic, so while I have a handful of "dance" tracks, the overall mix is the same kind of music I'd enjoy playing cards with friends late at night or BBQing at the lake.

But we may have different approaches to the situation. For me, the motivation to workout comes from eating right, sleeping right, and taking care of myself. The music is more like a very good friend who enjoys the workout with me.

So that provides the context; now I'll just list some of the artists from my workout playlist that I've really enjoyed having as gym buddies:

    Cut Copy
    B.B. King
    The Egg
    Bonobo
    Hot Chip
    Marvin Gaye
    Ian Pooley
    Nada Surf
    Massive Attack
    Ratatat
    Royksopp
    Flaming Lips
    Violent Femmes
    Air
    Cake
    Gorillaz
    Aesop Rock
    The Smiths
    Sade
    "Hedwig" Soundtrack
    The Dining Rooms
    Nirvana
    Old Crow Medicine Show
    Erykah Badu
    Weezer
    Hooverphonic
    Michael Jackson
    Thievery Corporation
    Zap Mama

Hmm... RPM's suggestion about taking your current songs and going to Pandora will probably be probably more helpful than my other comment.

    Cheers!

I use primarily electronic/rock music. Something with a good beat and good lyrics with maybe a solo in it can really restart you when you're slowing your pace.

I'm more into the euro, techno, trance and hardcore styles of music, so my list more or list fits the type:

    Run Away - Groove Coverage
Weekend Has Come - Styles & Breeze
    Eurofighter - E Type
True Believer (Styles & Breeze Remix) - E Type
I Can Walk On Water - Basshunter
Don't Stop Pushing It Now - Dan Winter
Fly With You - Scott Brown
Im On My Way (Cubstar remix) - Digital Rush
    Runaway - Cascada
Nessaja / I Like To Move It - Scooter Vs Reel 2 Real
Summer Rain (Alex K Remix) - Slinkee Minx
Me And You (Alex K Remix) - Frisco V Alexia

These twelve tracks give me roughly enough time for a run. Music is on and off for me when doing any other form of exercise.

Take a look at some of the songs on my profile, I usually put them in when I lift and dive.
