Having a conversation with my boyfriend about who would win between the two gay icons. I believe that Madonna is more favored in the gay community but he thinks that Cher is the epitome of gay culture.

    Which do you prefer?

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidIf I may be allowed to comment from just a general perspective and not from the 'gay culture' I think Cher has, by far, more vocal talent in her left pinky than all Madonna does from head to toe.

I don't know why Madonna took off with all the gays. Something about being a bleached blonde, bitchy, flashy, self-serving and having no true vocal talent seems to appeal to gay men. I think a lot of gay men want to be her because of these characteristics. The gay men I know who have formal or simply any type of background in music don't care for her. I don't know how she does it. I'm almost as equally dumbfounded with her sustained stardom as I was when Bush was voted to run our country into the ground for two terms. How do things like this happen and persist?

Cher has a gay following, no doubt. I'm not a huge HUGE fan but I do like her. I'm no Simon Cowell but she has a much larger range in terms of her ability to sing. Madonna was simply at the right place at the right time. If there were no Madonna from the 80's and someone just like her with her looks, and level of talent (in her case, evident lack thereof) auditioned on American Idol she wouldn't get very far.

an excellent, thoughtfull and incitefull response...as it's also what i think/believe/feel inside.

    Hmmm Oldonna or Cher...hmmm...

I would say Cher has a majority gay following while Madge appeals to a larger base.

But I guess I'll go with Madge though.

It's like asking me to compare a cubic zirconia to a diamond.

Both are admirable but only one has an alto that can initiate a siesmic eruption within and raise me form the dead.

LOL..I started reading the responses before looking at who posted them. As I read this one I wanted to know by whom the poster could be raised from the dead...and when I looked over and saw our precious 26mileman I literally chuckled out load cuz Big "G" has made it crystal clear whom he adores. I think it's really cool how Big "G" worships Cher.

I thought of you, Big "G" and your affinity for Cher and smiled as I left my apartment this morning after commenting on the post. Just remembered how you loved Cher... icon_razz.gif

That's cute because I read your post EARLY this am before work and thought "I bet A is counting on me to reply to this thread. "

I had to exercise sooo much restraint all morning and evening but buckled.icon_cool.gif

Cher has height on Madonna and I don't think she would be afraid to cheat, i.e. eye gouging, hair pulling, kicking in the groinal area. However, Madonna would have the obvious advantage in the hair pulling department because Cher's is so long and would be easy to grab. And, of course, Madonna is actually bald and wears wigs to hide it, so hair pulling would not affect her in a serious fight. Having said that, just watching both of them through the years makes me think Cher would pack a much harder punch. Yes, yes, I know Madonna is into fitness and has this image of being in shape, but I think Cher had a harder life growing up and would be a vicious fighter.

I say Cher beats the crap out her. However, I think it would be a hell of a fight and go on for quite a while.

Madonna is like an official gay rite of passage. With Cher you have to dig a little deeper.

Madonna likes to call herself the Queen of Pop. I like to call her the Queen of Queens. All others pale in comparison. I'm not even a huge fan, but y'all know it's true.

Madonna does NOT call herself the Queen of Pop.

Cher's gay following isn't so much for her music or "talent", it's just because they all love to dress and look like her. Cher was really the first wildly famous drag queen, only female. She has minimal vocal talent (her voice makes me cringe).

Talentwise, musically and vocally, Madonna trumps her with both boobies tied behind her back. Madonna has had a greater impact on society by advancing women's placement in society, and freeing sexual inhibitions for both sexes and sexual preferences. Madonna has done more for women and gays by allowing them comfort to give the ole "eff you" to old ideologies. Cher, was just popular and a strong female.

Cher is, however, the far superior actress.
