My quote when the going gets tough...."Standing Calmly at the Crossroads, No Desire to Run. There's No Hurry Anymore, When All is Said and Done."- Abba "All is Said and Done"

My quote when people have issues with me as a person and not my actions... "I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."
    — Marilyn Monroe

When I need guidance..." Pray as Everything Depended on G-d, Act as if Everything Depended on You."

When I need strength to act on my convictions..." If Not Now, Then When? If Not Here, Then Where? If Not Me, Then Who?"

Two of Gandhiji's quotes that I really believe in are

"Be the change you want to see in the world"
    and
"The world has enough for every man's need, but not for every man's greed"

Gandhi's approach, and that of most ascetics, displays a divergence in how one seeks happiness. You can either seek to change yourself to fit the pattern of the world, or you can change the world to fit the pattern of your desires. I think civilization worldwide has been a study in how much more effective the latter approach, and capitalism more specifically, have been. Longer lives, greater health, more opportunity to pursue valuable labor that a person enjoys doing and at which he or she is talented, and lower and lower violence and mortality in the world are all things that have not been brought to us by dint of Gandhi's approach. I agree more with this:

"I am not a destroyer of companies. I am a liberator of them! The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you very much."

    - Gordon Gekko

"Good friends are like stars; you don't always see them, but they're still there"

    ...and this one,

“A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.”

I've shared this before but I think it's worth repeating:

The three quotes that made enough sense for me to live and love by...

"There comes a time in life where you have to let go of all the pointless drama and the people who create it and surround yourself with people who make you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus soley on the good. After all, life is too short to be anything but happy."

"Do not let someone be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option."

"Good things come to those who wait, but only what's left by those who hustle."

    :-)

Most people don't know just how incredibly intelligent, insightful and articulate Marilyn really was.

People forget that indeed...She had to be smart in Hollywood in those days but she had to play into the doe-eyed image rather than be Norma Jean.

"I have learned, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
    ~ Henry David Thoreau

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."
    ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

"If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well."
~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Individuals will enter and exit your life much like characters in a play. Some will have minor roles to play, and others will have starring roles for a while, and still others will help you to codirect and coproduce your life. Always they will be important to the overall play itself."
    ~ Dr. Wayne Dyer

    Two of my favorites...

“…introverts are definitely not wallflowers. However, what drives introverts onto center stage is often different from what drives extroverts. Introverts come into the limelight because of their quest for work that has meaning to them, an unusual talent, or extraordinary circumstances..." --Marti Olsen Laney

“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” – Life’s Little Instruction Book, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

“First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.” – Mahatma Gandhi

If you don’t aim for it all, you’ll never get it all. To aim for it requires that you know what you want” ~ Richard Koch

“Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinion drowned your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total annihilation. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me, and when it has gone, I will turn the inner eye on its path. Where my fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
    -- Litany against fear

When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.
    -- Audre Lorde
