Some guys, like me, just didn't get the gay decorating gene.
I've had to rely upon the "Gay Garanimals for Interior Design".
In other words, the Pottery Barn catalog. I've found that if I just buy things that are on the same page as other things that they all seem to match and coordinate. I've also had tremendously generous and merciful friends help me during move in.
The last time I moved my dear friend Fernando offered to arrange all of my household. I said, "Sure." He stressed that I could change it all around afterwards if I wanted. I knew this and let him have at it. In the end, it looked "Fabulous!". Fernando again said that I could change it all around after he left. I said I loved it just the way it was.
A month later, he came back to the house and it was just the way he had arranged it. He was amazed! I said that loved it the way it was and I meant it. Besides, it was far better than anything I could have thought of.
I'm not good at everything. And, there are some things that I am just not the person who should be doing it. Interior decorating is one of them.
Aloha and Be Well!
P.S. I'd certainly hit that even in that tacky room. It would be tacky and sticky afterwards. :-)
