First of all, I came across quite a few posts here addressing the same issue. This seems to be a really sensitive topic which may offend both of the non-asian community and asain community. It's like a taboo, we all know it exists, but nobody talks about it. However, take a look at what they say about this film below, it's really got the point.

    =========================================

    No Asian

    http://www.noasiansthefilm.com/

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1604593/

    The Story:
Vince is an Asian-American guy casually enjoying dinner alone at his favorite restaurant when a handsome Latin guy named Frankie decides to “hit” on him. Vince is a bit annoyed yet polite to Frankie and at times even makes fun of Frankie’s nervous attempts to express interest and get a date out of him. Vince makes it clear he isn’t interested in a date or dating, yet somehow Frankie manages to get him over to his apartment and even make Vince fall for his charm and good looks. After their night together, Vince ends up with the feeling of “love at first sight,” but begins to think Frankie is unresponsive or at least not having the same intense feelings. This leads Vince into a very lonely state of fantasy, sexual obsession, confusion, pain, and him dealing with his own low self-esteem and negative body image as an Asian gay man.

This is a film that has been in development in my head for years. There were a number of goals to make the finished product successful for me and that meant having my hand in all aspects of the film. I wrote the script with a specific goal of limiting the dialog as much as possible and to make both the acting and music the centerpiece of storytelling. The lead actor, Craig Avera, did an amazing job of following my direction and being able to drag the audience through the various emotions required of the story (my first goal). My second goal was to introduce an Asian male in a lead role of something other than what is stereotypical (monk, kung-fu fighter) and make him a real person with real feelings that you'd find in everyday life. My third goal was to show that gay Asian men are handsome and sexy. On the gay food chain (unfortunately there is one) Asian men are too often the "never, no thanks" option for gay men who know how to stereotype and discriminate as well if not better than the rest of society. Finally, I wanted to address these ideas in film by creating lots of questions with no answers. Telling people what to think is never more effective than letting people think for themselves.

Looks interesting, not to mention the hunky, sexy cast icon_razz.gif

I checked out the site but there is no trailer or indication of where or when it will be available. Any idea?

A few days ago I sent an IM to an asian guy on a different site and he just went off bitching about how white guys are not into asians. I told him I can't speak for other white guys but I find asian guys very attractive. He just went on about how racist the white guys he previous met were. He complained how many times white guys were not interested in him because he is asian and on and on. Again I expressed my interest in asians but he just wanted to complain about how white guys don't like asians. His whole attitude turned me off so I stopped talking to him.
Complaining and playing the victim because some people don't find you attractive is very unattractive. Instead focus on those which do find you attractive. I've even had asian guys tell me that I can't really be into asian guys because I am an inshape white guy - what the fuck is that!
I also tend to prefer masculine asian guys (though I can also find fem guys attractive at times). I went out with this one fairly masculine asian guy (he wasn't as masculine as the thought he was though) and he just kept going on about how when white guys like asians they like fem asian. He explained to me that since he is masculine guys are not attracted to him and find him intimidating. Again his victimhood bitching attitude turned me off more than anything else.

Really? Asian guys are lower than fats and femmes?

Anyone who sits around bitching and festering about the people that don't find them attractive often fail to realize that it is their intense bitching and negativity (a la the previous post) that turns people off more than whatever attribute they possess that they've chosen to blame all of their problems on in life.

It's because Asians are sometimes seen as super fems.... icon_sad.gif
In GTMs they are often the campiest out of the bunch, if not the only ones.

I hear "Sorry not into dark meat" far more often than anything about Asian guys.

In fact the few times I get emails on sites are when guys want to use me to live out their strange fantasies of being mistreated by a "thug"

LOOK AT ME, do I look ANYTHING like that kind of guy!?

I don't understand why people choose to focus on people that don't like them. For every one guy that doesn't like an Asian guy, there is a guy that doesn't like white guys or black guys or latin guys or arab guys or models or actors or tall guys or fat guys or twinks. No one going to be attractive or desired by EVERYONE. That's why we have menus!

The model in the picture above is Peter Le. icon_biggrin.gif He's Super Hot.

Interesting premise for a film! Although I understand he's trying to make a point, I disagree with the filmmaker though, not sure about Asians guys on the food chain comparing them to Fats/Femmes, that's very extreme. icon_twisted.gif

I think it's because the US media like to portray Asian guys as the recent immigrant types who can't speak correct English (like Long Duk Dong) or being super femmes (but hey there are many femmes Whites/Latinos guys, too) - so some of us gay guys buy into that Asian image ordeal thing. But there are many hot, muscular Asian-American guys out there who also got a lot of love from the media. Rick Yune aka Zao from Bond 007 Die Another Day or Jason Scott Lee from Dragon The Bruce Lee Story. icon_smile.gif Now, these are the types that we as gay men should look up and lust after. Well, at least me. icon_cool.gif

I agree that the media is partly to blame on this issue. So this should help balance it:icon_biggrin.gif

I've never really had any problem getting laid. I'm 1/2 Chinese and 1/2 Puerto Rican. I have noticed that the "perception of hot/beauty" does seem to differ a bit according to the culture of the global region where I happen to be.

It's not wrong, it just is what it is.

Ive dated two asian guys before: one who i guess you could call femme and one who was masculine (almost to the point of being overly macho). Honestly the whole femme v. macho thing doesn't matter to me and I personally love asians the same way I love all races, but i do have friends who would dare to touch and asian guy (granted, some of the same guys wouldn't date a black guy either). I think that media doesn`t show asians as normal people, especially gay asians (all the gay asians i've seen on tv could be classified as screaming queens). I think that it not only affects the way non- asians view asians, but how other asians view themselves. To anyone who has known an asian from california/ new york, how many times have you heard one say they`d rather die than date another asian?

Having only the synopsis to go on, this film sounds like a muddled way of addressing the "No Asians" phenomenon, which I found to be especially widespread when I lived in San Francisco (more on that later). A hot Latino hitting on an Asian guy doesn't say "No Asians ... just not my thing" to me. I guess there are probably some guys who will hook up with Asians but never consider dating them, but total prohibition seems to be the more frequent approach. I can't count how many times I got called a rice queen -- including by Asian guys -- merely for not excluding Asian guys from my hookup/dating pool, which was hardly limted to Asians.

In San Francisco Asians were definitely the No. 1 group people seemed to think it was okay to complain about: Asian drivers, the Chinese are buying up all the real estate, etc. White guys would just assume it was okay to complain about Asians in my presence because I was white -- e.g., "I don't go to that club anymore; it went downhill. Too many Asians started going." (Wow. Not wanting to sleep with Asian guys is one thing, but imposing a quota on how many you're willing to be around? Wow.)

That said, I don't think all guys with a "No Asians" rule -- or, for that matter, a "White Only" rule -- are racist, though plenty are. I think it stems more from the fact that, as the filmmaker notes, Asians are incredibly underrepresented and stereotyped in popular culture. Asians aren't cast as leading men in movies unless they're martial artists. Other minorities are stereotyped too, but they are much more likely to be depicted in a sexually desirable light. (The situation is somewhat different for Asian women, who much more likely to be allowed, or even required, to be sexy.) That has to end up influencing how both Asians and non-Asians perceive Asians sexually.

I think increasing and diversifying the ways Asian men are depicted in the media is probably more realistic than trying to unpack racism in the bedroom. People discriminate in bed for all kinds of reasons, including by gender, age and other things people can't help, like height and eye color. The main focus should be on preventing/dissuading them from doing so when they're not in bed.
