I did chest, shoulders and triceps on Tuesday and soreness didn't kick in until yesterday afternoon and I'm still quite sore today. Is that within the normal range?

Normal. It's called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). Analgesic, massage, hot and cold showers/pools, drink lots of water, and rest depending on how bad it is.

The longest I've been sore for was 5 days, after a leg day, after taking 3 weeks off. It sucked; and I looked like a tool hobbling around at my office.
