Do you look too young for your age?

I'm sure many of you do, especially you smaller guys like me. I'm only 24 years old, but most of the time I'm mistaken for 17 or 18. Sometimes I blame all my years in gymnastics because many gymnasts look young, too. I'm only 5'6" and 137 lbs. I carry three forms of ID (license, passport, old college ID) because a lot of times people think at least one of them is fake. I think the most embarrassing thing that happened regarding my youthful appearance was about 5 months ago when I went to the movies and was carded for a rated-R movie....ugh! At least I understand getting carded for alcohol since they're doing it to everyone regardless of age in many places these days.

Of course, my parents and older people tell me I should appreciate looking young especially as I grow older. Perhaps there's some truth to that, although who knows how much I will age over the years. The only thing that sort of sucks about it is that older adults sometimes don't take me seriously enough, especially since I'm currently on the job hunt and going on interviews. I can definitely notice the look on their face when they first meet me and they ask me how old I am.

Fortunately it's become less annoying. I've been starting to see the humor in it. I've actually begun to take advantage of people assuming my younger age. For example, before I moved to Texas, I went on a trip to Philadelphia taking Amtrak from DC. I managed to get the student discount on my ticket because the ticket clerk simply assumed I was under 21 (even though I graduated from college 2 years ago). I've had a few other instances with various student discounts since then because no one asks for your ID to prove how young you are.

Well, I still don't look my age, but at my age that is a very good thing! Enjoy it. Before you know it you will be my age and will hope you still look young. When I was in grad school some people thought I was still in high school. So yeah. Being short reinforces that as well.

I'm floored when I meet people and they look 10-20 yrs older than I am, only to find out they are about my age. I'm very glad I have aged well.

There are worse annoyances to have.

There certainly are worse annoyances. I'm just glad now I'm starting to see the humor in my younger facade.

Getting carded for everything doesn't really bother me anymore. People are simply trying to do their job, so I've just learned to cooperate instead of get irked by it. Plus it's become common for people to get carded for alcohol these days regardless of how old they look, even if they're well above 21.

Like I said, the only thing that worries about this is older adults not taking me seriously, particularly potential employers. A few have looked me thinking: "What's this kid doing here? Did he just get out of high school?" Of course, I do my best to dress the part to look older. Many tell me to grow facial hair, but I hate how I look with facial hair. Not to mention it always itches.

    YES.

I know there are worse things in life (lol).

But at 51 and when people assume I am in my early 30's it starts to get ridiculously strange and too much of a topic of discussion or even a turn off for some guys.

Imagine how weird it is for me to be dating guys my age and they look like my father He ends up looking older and I end up looking younger especially if he is not in the greatest shape.

I kid you not. I've been told by guys my age that they are uncomfortable with me because they feel like they look old and can't keep up.

But there are some gorgeous men here on RJ who are my age that I think would make ME look old! But they live so far away.

LOL, there is no difference between 20 and 23. icon_rolleyes.gif

By the way, you don't look 20 (or 23) to me. You look a little older than that. I don't mean that in a bad way, though. You are handsome enough not to have to worry about microscopic age differences.

Maybe it's all those hang ups you have. All that judgmental energy you keep throwing all over the place. Wears you down...I'm telling you.

Lol- you just made my day.

I'm not judgmental. I'm just more honest than everyone else.

Story of my life right here. In these late teen years of my life, so many people have told me I look 16 or 15 and other occasionally younger ages too. My younger brother looks much older than I do, and I have no problem looking so young what so ever, its just the first thing people say when they see us together who is who and then I say I am the older on and they immediately say "Oh I thought he was the older one,,, Blah blah blah." Its getting jaded pretty quickly, but its inevitable. In any case, it seems to be as good conversation starter, haha, I can live it that, especially when I am older I wont look like all the other G'pas around icon_smile.gif

Young guys want to look older and old guys want to look younger. icon_lol.gif You do look younger than your age, which is a good thing, which means you are eating healthy and aging well. Keep it up!

I'm always being told I look a lot younger, too. They have to card everyone who looks under 40 at Wal-mart and everyone always cards me there. The guys at work don't believe I will be 50 next year I have always looked younger than my age since I was a kid.

Thanks to duct tape and spackle I think I look pretty good for a 32 (almost 33) year old man.

Or perhaps having been in gymnastics most of my life, I falsified my age just like those Chinese gymnasts icon_eek.gif

Nope. I get my age all the time. People never have a hard time guessing! I suppose that means I should moisturize more...

I am always told I look young for my current age. The other day, I went to get some wine at the local supermarket and this young teen who was the cashier asked for my ID and after she saw my DOB, she uttered (with a teen valley accent), "Nuh, Uh! That is whacked! You are not 41! That's kuh-razy!". Now, I was tickled pink but didn't know whether to feel good about her comments, or be insulted because I looked different for my true age. Then again, I was like "Um, WHA-EVAH!" LOL. icon_biggrin.gif

I had someone on here stalking me trying to get me to prove to him I was 21icon_evil.gif. I dont need to prove sh*t. If I look young then hooray for me. But the downside is that men are looking for men, not boyish looking men icon_neutral.gif

When I was 23, at 5'11" and 165 lbs, I was routinely mistaken for 17-18.

When I was 30, at 165 lbs, I was routinely mistaken for 20-22.

When I was 40, at 175 lbs, I was routinely mistaken for 24-27.

When I was 47, at 255 lbs, I was routinely mistaken for 33-35.

At 50, at 185 lbs, I'm routinely mistaken for 32-34, sometimes way younger.

But at 55 I expect to be routinely mistaken for 55, because all men hit the wall by 55, like these former pretty boys:

The guy below hit the wall at 45 - here, he looks 55:
