Recently while I've been working out I get really intense headaches which seem to happen when I push myself too hard. When it happens, I normally take a short break and decrease the weights I'm using and it goes away, for the most part, after a few minutes. Has this happened to anybody else or does anybody know what it may mean? This is the third time this has happened to me in just over a week, so I'm starting to get a little worried.

Check out this article from the Mayo Clinic

    Exercise Headaches

You should be checked by a physician to make certain the headaches are benign and not a symptom of a serious problem.

Thanks! That actually makes me feel a little bit better, seeing that it most likely isn't indicative of a larger problem, but I'll definitely get it checked out if it continues.

Also, make sure that you're breathing properly when you're lifting.

    In all likelihood, you're dehydrated.

It could also be possible that you are tiring yourself way more than your body allows you to. Make sure you are sleeping well and well hydrated. It happens to me every time I don't get enough sleep and am tired.

I'm going to throw this out there.. but I think it could possibly be your blood pressure. I, too, have from time to time had headaches after I lifted weights, and my BP was rather high following my lifting sessions. Typically, I don't have headaches, but it does happen from time to time. If your BP is high to begin with, your lifting will only cause it to go higher, and thus give you a headache.

yeah. i get these sometimes too. i feel like its a blood pressure issue because it usually happens if i do decline on a bench or anything upside down or where the blood rushes to my head. yoga headaches are some of the worst i've gotten. my resting bp is normal. I agree, hydration and breathing properly helps a lot.

anyone know anything about yoga headaches?

I was gonna say that too. Just take some Aleve before the gym and drink plenty of water.

Very common side effect with Dehydration, If that doesn't help have your blood pressure checked.

So the headaches have gone away ever since I started doing neck stretches. I tend to lay on my bed with my head propped up, putting my neck in a precarious position so I think that's what's been causing it and neck stretches help to correct it. Just wanted to put that out there in case anybody it helps anybody else.
