I think it would be a great thread for all of you business owners here on RJ to tell us what you do. Who knows maybe some of your professions can come in handy in life. I'd rather support an RJ member than just flicking through google to find what I need. Don't be shy!

My primary business is graphics design, mainly in print design but I can also help brand a company too.

I operate a small bicep fetish paysite on the side, just for fun and a little extra income.
Up until recently I did some photography work for business ads, including the company I currently work for.
I'm independently contracted at my f/t job so I don't have to put up with the horrors of daily 9-5 life, so that kinda sorta counts as business ownership without the extensive paperwork.
I used to own a short-order restaurant with an ex...never again, though. Restaurant work is not for ADHD people. icon_lol.gif

I design, implement, and manage strategic reorganization projects for corporate clients. My projects often involve reengineering, redefining, and/or evolving the core business model of the company. My work usually involves streamlining and upgrading a broad range of business processes (for example manufacturing, logistics, purchasing, and IT).

Over the years I have tended to work with a core group of service providers including Bain, IBM, SAP, Oracle, and Sun Microsystems.

If I have a particular focus it is on companies in the fashion sector, though I have worked in other areas as well. My clients tend to be larger, with the smallest company having been about .5 billion in turnover.

I have particular expertise in analysis, synthesis, and negotiation. My clients are usually very happy when I am able to use these skills to distill really complicated and intractable problems down to fairly simple and actionable steps.

I tend to be very good at building teams. As a tendency I will identify a group of young people in different departments of a company (accounting, legal, IT, manufacturing, marketing, sales, logistics, retail, etc.) who are the ones who are actually doing all the work. I tend to concentrate on building relationships amongst those people who go on to become the agents of change in the organization. I would far rather work with young people who really can see the benefit and are willing to work to see change that will positively impact their careers.

Mostly I am hired by owners or boards of directors. Middle managers, CEOs, and CFOs tend to hate me and want to see me die a brutal death by slow dismemberment. If you're a savvy capitalist who is looking to achieve a competition-crippling competitive advantage then you might just want to get in touch with me.

In the past I have been involved in a number of startups and I have, also, represented investors who have wanted me to shepherd startups in which they have invested through an incubation, stealth, and go to market phase. I am quite skilled at this sort of "outward bound" business building and really love doing it. If you have a really incredible idea for a startup and want to see it succeed the chances are good that I can help you make it happen.

My business approach is absolutely zero bullshit, as honest as I can be, and as direct as possible. I look on my work as warfare and I take the safety and wellbeing of the people I work with to be sacred. What I do touches the livelihoods of men and women who have hopes, dreams, and families. While I am very pragmatic and even cut-and-dried in my approach, I have never put the ethic of capital ahead of the holistic ethic of growth. I like successful people more than numbers on spreadsheets.

Finally, I do a lot of work with charities. Most recently I have been involved with projects for the use of advanced technology in primary education both in the United Kingdom and India. I have done quite a bit of work for cultural and historic preservation in Europe (the UK, France, and Italy) as well as in India. If you have a fabulous charitable project I might be interested. Get in touch.

Wanna know more about my unusual line of work?

I was in retail management for about 30 years. I made it to the District level when the company I worked for (a large drug store chain) eliminated my position and me right along with it. I became an Independent Distributor for a network marketing company called Asea in February and am doing pretty decent at it. I would like to start my own network marketing company in the near future instead of being just a distributor for one. I have also owned a chain of retail stores based in Michigan and am considering looking for another chain of stores or a single store to buy and make into a chain.

I worked in the Tile design industry for many years and recently started my own company. I focus on the trade client but do sell both online and retail. I have another branch of my business which reps products to distributors. Glass, ceramic, porcelain, stone, mosaics are all great design products and I am constantly looking for new ways to use them.

The site is very nice. I have always been crazy about encaustic cement tiles. Are you reselling or designing and manufacturing your own product?

I have a global health and wellness business with USANA Health Sciences which I build along side my personal training business.

I've been very successful at this for over a decade now. Still very passionate about helping people be healthy and fit so I still personal train and teach fitness classes and promote the USANA product line. Life is great.

    "A Sea of Trees"

I paint dead trees (sounds exciting, right?) Opened my own gallery two years ago where I sell my own work. Just had our two year anniversary as a matter of fact.

Wait I'm slightly confused, how many of you so far have your own businesses and if so what is the product or service that your business offer cause so far its starting out to sound like "I worked here for this long and did this..." I've read like 3 I think so far that are actually owners of businesses...
