The dreadful silence...

It seems to happen everytime I greet someone at the gym, someone I noticed that has been checking me out during workout.
    eg.

Me: hey how's it going man
    Him: pretty good, you?
Me: same here, had a good workout

then follow by period of silence before I try again

Me: doing anything fun for the weekend?
Him: yeah, just got back from a short trip.
Me: nice, must be where you got your tan.

Once again follow by long silence, so I gave up and said goodbye. Seriouly I need some advices from the Masters on RJ, it just seems impossible to make the conversation flow when I am talking to guys I find attractive at gym, brain turns to mush when I look at their hot face and body...the hot chick syndrome except it's a dude...

    How about this?

You: hey how's it going, man?
    Him: pretty good, you?
You: pretty good, too, except that after I lugged around the free weights for awhile my arms appeared to have gotten longer. *wink and laugh*

    Humour breaks ice very well.

You giving him closers instead of openers

If you wanna talk to someone
you'll need to open up the conversation by bringing in some new areas to talk about

Me: hey how's it going man
    Him: pretty good, you?
Me: same here, had a good workout

I did back today ... what about you?

Me: doing anything fun for the weekend?
Him: yeah, just got back from a short trip.
Me: nice, must be where you got your tan.

    Where did you go?

i prefer skipping the conversation and going directly for the oral sex in the steam room. but I guess we each have our own methods.

I could totally go for that, but it seems most of the hot guys at my gym avoids steamroom ... they shower quickly then take off ... that or no shower at all icon_sad.gif

It takes two people to have a conversation (well, usually). It could be that the other person just doesn't feel like talking at the moment, or is not talkative to begin with.

Maybe you should just walk by him one day and spontaneously tear off his clothes, then throw him back on a bench (or the floor) and start groping all over his body. Then there won't be any need for conversation.

You've gotten mostly benevolent reasons why he doesn't go beyond the responses.

It could be he doesn't want to be bothered and would rather workout.

Or he doesn't want to encourage a friendship with you.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but that's the other possibility. It may have nothing to do with your conversational skills.

For whatever reason, he's not into pursuing a conversation or a possible friendship or whatever with you.

...oh, by the way, on the mixed messages part of the OP's comment.

If you feel he's giving you the cold shoulder AND checking you out....just give him a cold shoulder, or at least, don't go out of your way to say hello or initiate contact. If he really was interested, he'll approach you for a conversation, even if it's just an innocent "how's your workout today?" type of thing.
