So I was doing a Google search on a topic, and the top result it returned was a reference to one of my own RJ posts! And when I clicked it I was taken to my RJ post, which showed my pic and all.

But I was logged onto RJ at the same time, so I signed out, and redid the Google search. I was the top hit again, but this time it showed "Hidden member" instead of my pic. That's because I have my RJ Preferences set to "Allow only members who are signed in to the RealJock site to view my profile."

I would expect many of us have already made that selection. But be aware that Google, and I presume other search engines, can find us here even if someone doesn't know RJ exists. No doubt I'm naive about these things, but I didn't realize a Google search could find specific text items posted within this kind of site.

Yep, RJ threads are part of the Google spider.

Must they be? Is this a choice by RJ, to permit access to its threads by search engines, or is it unavoidable? I suppose an advantage to RJ, in that it increases the potential for new members, who stumble upon the site in that manner.

Actually a Google search is how I found RealJock. (I can hear some members muttering "Curse the day!") I did a search on jock straps ( icon_redface.gif ) and this site's homepage was a hit.

But I never before had a search turn up an RJ thread post before. And when it did this time, it was my own, very strange. icon_confused.gif

I live by the knowledge that "everything you post online is public."
Never assume that the internet is anonymous. A google search of my screenname will bring up my real name, and vice versa, and pretty much everything I've ever done online...both good and bad. I just go through life with the assumption that whoever still talks to me after googling me doesn't give a fuck about my past, and accepts the fact that I am who I am with no apologies nor regrets. icon_biggrin.gif

Yes, in fact that is how I found this site to start with; Google searching P90X, looking for testimonials’ on it.
I found the link to a thread on the subject and stayed.
