Trouble bulking up

    I'm new to working out. I've been going to the gym for about 3 months now. Initially, the results were extremely encouraging, but 6 weeks ago I changed my routine in response to a slowdown in progress. I think helped a bit (I certainly felt I was working a lot harder for the first week) but since then I haven't gotten much in the way of gains.

    I guess the first question is should I be concerned by this? Is it just how it's supposed to be? Lots of progress very early on that tapers down quickly? Is there anything I can do to improve?

    I don't think hours at the gym are the problem - I do 90+ minutes 3-4 days a week. That would leave diet, regime, and technique. I've been trying hard to eat more, but I guess the fact that I haven't even gained weight as fat suggests that I'm probably not eating as much as I could be. Or maybe it's just my metabolism (I've never been fat before, and my low weight was partly what prompted me to start working out). My regime was put together by someone at the gym and gets reviewed every so often, so it's probably fine, but maybe there are some obvious exercises to work in? (I can go over it in detail but I'm not sure that'll be helpful.) Technique is something I always worry about. I want to push myself as hard as I can, but I'm still not sure how far I can go without injury. When I was changing my routine 6 months ago, I was gonna add lateral raises, but I found I couldn't do them on my left side without a lot of pain - and that hasn't changed after 6 weeks (any advice?). I'm simultaneously worried about pushing too far and not pushing far enough!

    Will do. How do I know how much protein per day should I be aiming for?

    Depends on your weight and how big you want to get... but remember diet is SO much more than grams of protein.
