I know friends that don't mind going to a restaurant and eating alone. I just can't do it. I will get it to go and take it home, but not in a restaurant. I LOVE going to the movies by myself, but not eating...how bout you?

Yes I eat alone from time to time. Typically if they have a bar area, I'll eat there. Guess since I do a lot of things by myself, eating by myself is no different.

I am such a chatterbox I really don't like going anywhere alone. I like having friends with me to talk too.

There is an Indian buffet I sometimes go to alone because none of my friends really like Indian food. If there is something I want to I don't need to have someone with me. It is called being independent.

I`d rather starve than eat in a restaurant alone.

Yeah, most other things I don't mind doing alone but restuarants. It's the socialization which our society associates with restuarants. Going out to eat is an event. One that is shared and remembered. For me atleast going out (other than fast food) to eat marks special occurances. birthday, death, anniversary, date, sharing something special with a friend. It is the only obilgatory must feel good or make others feel good event. I know for some it is a casual thing but for me NOT.

Sure. Sometimes I just want a quiet dinner out but don't feel like cooking, want to treat myself without eating junk food, or I'm going to a restaurant my friends don't really like. Mostly go with others, but I don't feel awkward going to enjoy a meal on my own and just chill out for a bit.

Everyone leads such different lives that it's inevitable I'll do something on my own, and I'm cool with that icon_smile.gif

I'll eat out alone at a place like Panera or Einstein's. At a restaurant I'd rarely eat alone. But when I'm traveling by myself I would rather sit at the restaurant's bar to eat instead of being isolated in a hotel room.

Some really good restaurants have a bar area where they put out place settings and people actually eat there - with a couple of TV's up in the corners, with games / sports playing. You're right in the restaurant but not hogging a whole table when you're by yourself. I've even sat up there when I'm in a pair. You can talk to people on either side of you. The action is good - you can watch all the busy activity of everything and the bar tenders get you anything you want - - fast! I sometimes like these places better than the tables.

It's fun going out with friends, but I have no problem eating alone...unless the place is crowded.

I don't have a problem eating alone if the restaurant had a bar area. Sitting at a table alone is another story.

I go out by myself quite often... sometimes during my lunch break, sometimes when I just feel like sitting somewhere and reading a book or a newspaper.

I prefer cooking at home to eating out whenever possible. But when there are times I want to go out or have no choice but to go out, I don't mind eating alone. But I think that's because I enjoy being alone occasionally. I like to swim in my own thoughts and focus on eating. There have been times where I want to enjoy my food, and people keep talking to me and talking to me, blah!

I eat alone often and by choice. I enjoy my own company and can keep myself quite entertained. Tonight, it was a place called "The Grove at Yerba Buena".

I also like to eat with friends and others. Just last night I had dinner with a new San Francisco friend I met on Grindr. "Puccini and Pinetti". Yum!

I have no problem at all going to a restaurant alone. I make it up by eating for two. LoL.
If needed I'll bring a school book to keep me company.

I try to avoid eating out if I'm by myself, mostly because I'm cheap icon_razz.gif But I've ended up doing it a few times. I once thought I was meeting friends out to eat but apparently had the day wrong, so I just ordered for myself.

I enjoy watching others eat alone (not in a cruel way). I don't know why. I've seen my share of individuals (mostly older) eating by themselves with a newspaper and what not WHILE being content doing so. And every time I see that, I get warm inside and I want to go over and hug them and sit down with them.

I eat alone and go to the movies alone. It's not a big deal. It's actually refreshing. You should try it a few times. It may be helpful "therapy" for people that are shy or need to work on their self confidence.
