Blurring Boundaries at the Gym

Every so often I find myself working out or running alongside someone I normally encounter only in a very different context: a client, a co-worker or -- most awkward of all -- a student. All of a sudden I become very conscious that I'm hot, sweaty and half-naked, and I don't know how to act. Anyone ever face this situation?

Aren't you at the gym to work out...who cares who is next to you...just focus on the task at hand..that is what I do...

Maybe you should masturbate before going to the gym so you're less likely get those urges and awkward feelings. icon_razz.gif

They're also uncomfortable and hot and sweaty when they see you. How skillfully you can bridge the gap and connect with them to make them feel more comfortable in the situation is your test. It's what the british used to consider a social skill, and what we find a challenge today. We're just a bunch of pigs compared to them. Don't you love those old Merchant and Ivory films?

From reading the original post I sensed that maybe you are uncomfortable in those situations because you feel you project a specific persona in the various social contexts in which you exist. You interact with clients in a certain context, and the person they see there is somewhat different than the persona you have in a very different context. So having to interact with someone in a non-standard environment creates a little angst since you have to weave a blend on the fly that fits the situation.

I bitch about my boss at the gym from time to time. However, someone from management at work shows up on occasion, at those times I do not. LOL
