Racism on facebook.

I'm really weirded out by this whole "ginger' fad that's been going around. I get that most of it comes from Southpark jokes but it's getting to the point where it's not funny,

I remember when "Kick a Ginger Day" was the "funny" thing on facebook. Not much later, there was a news report about redheads getting beaten up.
    in highscools across the country.

I just saw a group called "the awkward moment when a ginger speaks without permission."

I'm sorry. I get that the originators of this humor only meant it to be funny, but I can't help but notice that idiots take it seriously. You can't start racist humor and expect nothing to come of it.

I just don't get it. Everybody expects to be funny by putting other people down. There isn't any point. You can be funny without hurting someone else. I feel like most of these people have such low self-esteems that the only way they can make themselves feel better is by putting someone beneath them.

The whole self-other dichotomy that keeps getting constructed and reconstructed by nearly every demographic in society is what causes every form of bigotry. No matter what you look like, someone is going to treat you like shit for it. It's a sad state of affairs.

the whole ginger thing is ridiculous. A fucking comedy show made a joke about how ridiculous racism is and all of a sudden people are actually following it... clearly missing the humor. Check out M.I.A's "Born Free" video; I feel like it's a bit of a dramatic foreshadowing of how far this kind of crap can really go.

I'd post the video but I can't access my youtube account for some reason.

I don't think that it's racist by definition since ginger isn't a race... it's like calling someone who makes a dumb blonde joke a racist. The problem is the violence and extremism of these jokes; where you might make a joke about a blonde doing something stupid, you're not actually approaching the sort of demeaning nature many ginger jokes are going for.

    Whoa whoa whoa.

How could anyone hate a red head?

They are so hot o.O My ideal boyfriend would be like a red head 6'2 ,180-200lbs toned, and with any of the following accents Southern/Irish/British/Austrilian

Luckily, I dont get too caught up in the idea of an ideal partner.

I never found it funny to begin with.

I was eating sushi with a friend and I took a photo of one of our plates (flying tiger) and sent it to a couple of friends I know like sushi. One sent a text back saying, "someone shaved a ginger..." And that actually really surprised me. I never would have expected a comment like that to come from him.

Prejudiced remarks are just that, as plain as black and white; there are no grey areas. (that sounded like a rather aweful pun, sorry)

Oh please bashing redheads has nothing to do with racism, once agin that word just gets thrown around. One day it will have no meaning at all, because it has been abused to death.

Sure, using the word "racist" rather than "prejudiced" is not technically proper, but who cares. Though, in theory, "red-headed white people" are a distinct biological phenomena--the differences between the human "Races" isn't that deep to begin with, and is almost as shallow as hair-colour differences from a biological and cultural standpoint.

That being said, I almost invariable fall for any meaty red-head that walks into my gym. Especially ones that hold their tans well. There is something about an angry tough jock red-head..

One of my Grand Pas was a red head, and one of my brother is a red head, and all my brothers are either gay or breeding bisexuals, but the red head is the vilest, bitchy spitful queen. I have thanked God for many years I was the blond one. No racism or predigest to it.

Footnote: any one out there who fools themselves with the thought of how better life would be, if your brother was gay and not straight, get over it, it's a myth.

Just when you thought the Duke of Gobbledygook couldn't say anything more appalling and more offensive, he tops himself again. Which I suppose in a way is lucky, since no one else would care to get that close to him.

Oh, wait. Except for his two imaginary husbands.

(Note to Pattison: Since you're making shit up, why bother stopping at two? Why not invent six or seven fake husbands?)

Oh feel the love. You do continue to stalk one to spread your hate. Love, number one you would not know whats on my bedside table as much as you would not know who and what my family members ares. Oh thats a really old picture of you and at your old age, a few years can make all the diffrence, how about an updated one; please.

He would be so proude of you. As you try to destroy anyone who would of opposed him; like I.icon_wink.gif

    Ok. Prejudice, not racism.

Thank you Pattison for devaluing the entire point of my post by pointing out a poor word choice.

My point isn't about the word "ginger," it's about the attitude taken towards them because of something that was intended to be a joke.

PS: The word "race" is a broader term than many give it credit for. It's like Michael Foucault referring to homosexuals as a "species" when they gained their own culture. Word choice doesn't have to be specific to direct definition in order to be applicable.

PPS: Yeah the video is horrific. I got kind of ill when I first saw it, but that's the point. I love M.I.A. for being unapologetic about her political observations and theories.
