I thought the USA was a free country, but I´ve been looking into it and there is almost total socialization of things which should be left to market forces. For example, your children go to state run schools which do not teach that Jesus created the world 8,000 years ago. All tax payers have to fund this secular socialism, even the ones who are going to be raptured. You have roads which connect states which ANYONE can use. This allows free movement of poor people and could be used to spread extreme liberal ideas, such as the equality of men and women.

If my neighbour´s house catches on fire then I have to pay for the firefighters who put it out. This is blatant intrusion of big government into the private sector. How is it fair that someone who choses to spend his money on stupid things like books instead of fire insurance gets a free ride on this? And your police! OMG… you don´t have private police who work for small groups in society that privately fund them and then compete against each other. They actually try and work for SOCIETY… that´s SOCIALISM. You have socialized justice. WAKE UP AMERICA!!! And the army is the same: instead of the private militias of drug barons and terrorists in truly free societies like Somalia where the government doesn´t interfere in the interests of the elite you have a military which is SOCIALISED. It works for EVERYONE.

At least you don´t have to pay for the health care of poor people.

Thanks for the wake-up call! I'm going to stop paying the part of my taxes that pays for the road to the right when you go out my drive, because I always go left. Damned socialist road taxes!

That´s the spirit! Why should you pay for something that isn´t for you? If other people want it THEY should pay for it. There are whole streets which I don´t ever walk on.

yeah, well fortunately with present tax regulations it IS the poorer parts of society which support socialism instead of the super rich who don´t need a tenth of what they have. And people say Bush did nothing right! If I am in the top 1% of incomes, as long as I know the system, I can pay less tax per dollar than the woman who cleans my houses.

Sadly, even our BEST CONSERVATIVE MINDS are calling for further governmental intrusion into the private sector.

As if Obama weren't socialist enough for them, they now want him to "DO SOMETHING!" to end the Gulf Oil Spill. Say WHAT?

A PERFECTLY PRIVATE BUSINESS, BP, created the spill and is now managing the situation.

Are you high? BP has bungled this from start to finish. They're lack of safety protocols caused the spill and it has been spilling for 40 days. I hope the people living on the Gulf Coast sue them out of existence.

As imperfect as it may be, if anybody doesn't like being a U.S. citizen or living here, they can most certainly go elsewhere.

On top of all this my tax dollars have to go to subsidize student loans; if you can’t afford to pay for college than you shouldn’t go.

    Set Satire = on
Heck, I don't have any kids, why should I pay for "education"?. We need an illiterate pool of indentured servants for generations to come!

And healthcare for the young, elderly, or sick who cannot pay for their own? Come on! Everybody knows that death is nature's way of culling the weak from the strong. Subsidized healthcare is unnatural and gets in the way of "God's Will".

Also, the next time some wimpy foreign country, like Kuwait, wants our help in protecting the oil that is our God given right to have in the first place, then they should just agree to become a state (except that their people should not be granted "full citizenship" or the right to vote.

Oh, and global warming? It will cut down on heating costs, so stop your bitching! If you can't afford air-conditioning, then you'll just have to learn to like sweating. Besides, sweating is good for you.

And guv-uh-mint should be as small as possible! Deregulate everything! Let the market decide! We don't need costly burdensome regulations on drugs, food, water quality, air quality, wages, safety, organ donation (vs a free and open organ market) and all that other nonsense.

    Christian,
I am indeed generally high, naturally. But that was meant only as satire, in keeping with the spirit of previous posts.

But I do find it odd that the RightWing is taunting Obama for not doing more to "plug the hole"......when it was their cherished private enterprise that created this mess AND continued to reassure us that they had it all under control.

Don't forget those blasted public libraries providing books for free! No wonder waldenbooks went under, they can't just give people books to read and then take them back once the person has read it. And how dare the state actually encourage literacy anyway?? People should be listening to the most entertaining providers of information to learn what they need to know.

I am glad that some elements of true, conservative, and anti-social America remain. Thank goodness for the Small Government that doesn't stop the greedy from stealing from the poor, but DOES stop those damn'ed homosexuals from marrying. Thank we haven't legalized something evil like marijuana, when our perfectly functional has wonderful cure-all miracle drugs like Oxycodon and Vikaden that I can get for a toothache. Thank goodness that we can shrink our government a little smaller, without risking the competitive Lobbyist/Corporate Interests that control the Senate. Why even bother with a senate anyway, or a president? Let's downsize the government entirely, and create a truly free market society--the richest person is the president, every major corporation gets a Senator, and EVERY business gets a Representative. Without any of that silly Government nonsense to get in our way, we can better perfect our ability to get as much money as physically possible, even if we go into debt trying to collect imaginary money and IOUs from the endentured slaves (Oops, I mean the working class--sorry, we know you poor folk love political correctness).

And remember, you are only alive because you owe someone important money. You don't even have the right to die until you've paid them all back.

You didn't do very much looking, did you ?

State funded schools? I guess you are unaware of home schooling? The number of students in the US homeschooled jumped from 50,000 in 1985 to 850,000 in 1999 and in 2007 was estimated at 1.5 million.
    http://homeschooling.suite101.com/article.cfm/trends_and_growth_in_homeschooling
    http://nces.ed.gov/pubs2009/2009030.pdf
    http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/weblinks/numbers.htm

I attended Private Military schools, which my parents paied for, without assistance from government sources. My son also attends a private school, where religion as well as science is a requirement.
    http://www.sjms.org/
    http://www.rowlandhall.org/

6,049,000 students attend private schools, or 11% of all US students.
    http://www.capenet.org/facts.html
Since my son doesn't attend public schools, why should I pay property taxes to fund a broken schooling system ?

As for the Highway system, in 1956 the Highway Trust Fund was begun with the promise that all taxes collected from gas were to go to highway funding. Congress has expanded that to include public transportation.
    http://reason.com/blog/2010/03/05/new-at-reason-robert-poole-on
Before 1925 many highways were built as agreements between states, without the federal government.
    http://www.pineappleweed.org/interstate101/history.html
Roadway systems have long been part of government systems. Think Rome.

As for Fire departments, you should be aware that 86% of the fire departments in the United States are volunteer (70%) or mostly volunteer(16%) and serve 39% of the population.
    http://www.usfa.dhs.gov/statistics/departments/index.shtm
The community I live in is served by a Volunteer Fire Dept. All of the expenses of the dept. are paied for by those of us living in the community, no state funding.
Doesn't seem like a very socialist system to me.

Private Police? There are private police forces in the US as in other countries.
    http://www.americanpolicegroup.com/
As for the rest of the police forces in the United States, less than 100,000 local police forces are funded by the federal government.
    http://www.cato.org/pubs/handbook/hb105-17.html
The rest of our police forces are funded by the local bodies that formed them.
In my community we have a local force provided for by the local taxes in our community and an annual fee assesed for such reason. We also have such a fee for improvement of our utilities, no help from the state. Socialist?

As for militas, you didn't look too far into that either, did you ? We do have militias that operate legally in the United States.
    http://www.constitution.org/mil/link2mil.htm
    http://www.saf.org/LawReviews/FieldsAndHardy.html

As for your remark about the army working for everyone, I think you might have a few liberals disagree with you there. Especially when the Iraq War is mentioned.

I thought you said you looked into this?

In Los Angeles roads are prisons. I'd rather pay for a better transportation system. And by that I don't mean loud smelly busses that clog up Santa Monica Blvd with fucking flat screen TVs inside, and I don't mean the metro that links you to 1 mile from LAX through Compton.

Freedom only takes you as far as the intelligence of the people who design freedom for you. The transportation system has failed in Los Angeles.
