    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/sc-ent-0528-rampage-jackson-20100530-47,0,3698550.story

"At issue: a movie crew member had wandered in on this final day of principal photography and — whether jokingly or not — called the muscle-bound movie star a homophobic epithet. Jackson had responded with barely contained fury. He threw the guy out, shouting him down with every conceivable gay slur. "You're a punk!" Jackson finally bellowed.

He claimed the crew member's intent had been to provoke a physical assault. "That … wanted me to punch him so he could sue me," the professional body-slammer explained, using a certain 12-letter curse word that he lets fly often in conversation — a word that has no business appearing in a family newspaper and, for the sake of this article, will here on out be substituted with "individual.""

""Acting is kind of gay," Jackson said. "It makes you soft. You got all these people combing your hair and putting a coat over your shoulders when you're cold. I don't want a coat over my shoulders! I'm a tough-ass [individual]!

"Vancouver strikes me as a San Francisco-kind of place," he continued. "And I don't want [individuals] getting ideas about me. I feel in my heart I'm the toughest [individual] on the planet. And I don't want nothing changing my train of thought. If you don't believe that when we step inside the octagon, it shows.""

Ooooo we get it, you're a big tough fighter guy ooooooo you punch people in the face for a living you must be some super tough guy.

    Really? GET OVER YOURSELF ASSHOLE.

    Sorry, had to vent that.

Reminds me of the pro fighter I exchanged gropes with in Sports Authority, and thoroughly enjoyed feeling each other's muscles. But he's not "gay" because he's masculine and fights well. Yeah, whatever. icon_lol.gif

I love how on the second page Jackson says "People can be really inconsiderate of people's feelings."

Ok crash course into the sociology of homophobia. Every time one of these douches opens their mouths and says something like "oh thats gay" or "stop acting like fag" it works as confirmation for douche bags that look up to them that its ok to hate gay. Its ok to think that gay people are wrong and immoral and belittiling them and attacking them is wrong.

This is why we have such an issue in this country where straight men feel they have to respond to even the slightest attack on their sexuality (joking or not) like its a threat to their life, and this only intensifies the hate.

Throw in religious nut jobs,anti-gay politicians, and other people hell bent on making sure being gay is viewed as evil and the outcome is not so good for us.

Also you really have to look at the target audience of a lot of MMA stuff...usually the guys chasing us with bricks and bats, and shit like this only (in their minds) confirms their hatred for them.

Regarding the tool in the article -- I wouldn't call this hyper-masculinity, I would call this hyper-douchebaggery.

I would tend to agree, though of course it's douchebaggery aimed at making oneself appear more masculine. Really, the two terms may be one and the same. I haven't really observed any girlish figures exhibiting douchebag characteristics (bitchy, on the other hand...). The douchebag phenomenon happens when socially instilled values of masculinity become overemphasized in the mind of the douchebag, to the detriment of intelligence and morality, among other things. icon_lol.gif

Douchebags are failures at the attempt to be a man. Hence the phrase, "You're doing it wrong."
