Are there any soap opera fans? I know that they are on their way out, but sometimes it is a nice escape to watch other people's drama.

Ugh I used watch that German soap but it's gotten to the point where Oli just makes my skin crawl.

I found a new one called Emmerdale. The acting is way better and the story line is just starting. You can watch it from the beginning here...

I advise you go back a bit before everything starts going down so you have some background. Danny Miller is amazing.

Used to watch both Verbotene Liebe and Alles Was Zaht but i eventually didn't have the time. But for this summer I'm planning to catch up. Knowing some german also helps keeping up with these german soaps.

Work out in my basement and watch soaps usually thin. Why is it that soaps are suposedly dying but telenovelas are huge in the Hispanic world?

I watch K-dramas (Korean soap operas). I'm a fan of a number of them. For one thing, many of them are actually sitcoms or romance comedies. They're very entertaining because they have a way with the little details in their humor that you just don't find in most American entertainment.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidKorean soap operas...dang that just made me literally laugh out loud.

I used to watch Melrose Place years ago. That was like a soap opera.

Haha, most of them aren't much like the trashy American or Latin American soaps. The ones I've watched have all been comedies.

Is that the Adam and Aaron story? I used to watch it but stopped a couple months ago when the boys got busy with their "girlfriends". Are the boys getting together again?

I spent a good part of my early childhood being raised by nuns.

After lunch, we would always retire to watch The Edge of Night and Another World.

    I miss Another World.icon_sad.gif

It is because the primary target demographic for US soap operas - stay at home middle class married women with children looking for an afternoon escape - is thinning out. They have day jobs now so their afternoon escape comes from The Barista and The Biscotti at Starbucks, not from The Bold and The Beautiful.

There was a popular soap opera in Spain (made in Catalunya) that ran for 9 seasons featuring a young gay couple, dealing with the acceptance of their sexuality and trying to maintain their relationship.

It's called El cor de la ciutat or The Heart of the City, and it's in Catalan rather than in Spanish.

I've watched Y&R off and on since it's inception ('76) all youn have to do is watch once a month, and you can figure it out real quick.

I watch VL also, is it me or does Thore Schollermann(Christian) bear a striking resemblance to Chad Michael Murray. Also watch Emmerdale, fantastic storyline. American soaps are so bad in comparison.

Yep, due to end in September. So come on over to Y&R. Once of the main characters is a gay lawyer, Rafe and his boyfriend character was just introduced, although a minor role at this point.

I am a big Bold and the Beautiful fan. I watch the Young and the Restless regularly, too.

i watch that as well. It's a good show, but i think it's rearing it's end. they're getting awfully close to a break-up ever since Rob stepped into the picture. That is really the only soap i keep up with. i followed kyle and fish for a minute but got bored quick.

haha. I doubt they will break up. Christian and Oliver are too popular as a couple. The ups and downs are to keep the interest of the viewers. While it is good to have them on the front burner again, I was hoping for a meatier storyline. I wonder if they will ever be able to top the boxer story?
