    Hello everyone icon_smile.gif
Okay i have a question... I've been working out for the last year. 5 days a week. I drink 1 large cup of coffee (sometimes black, sometimes with one milk) before every work out. I find it gives me energy and a great buzz. When I drink coffee i can do an hour and half of cardio but when sometimes if i try to work out without my coffee i tend to slack off and not do so well. It even helps with the weight training. My question to you all is: Is it okay to have a large coffee before a work out?... i do keep myself hydrated throughout my workout. It's an amazing tool and very cheap too. it works wonders!!! the only side effect I've noticed is i get a bit anxious after. But I don't care about that. I should probably mention also that I'm 21 if that makes a difference.

I wouldn't workout without coffee. It's been my before workout drink since I started working out. Just drink lots of water, too, because caffeine is a diuretic.

Funny you're the one who answered. Actually your coffee post reminded me that i was meaning to ask this question on here... Anyways thanks for the advice it's just some people say it fucks up your heart or something and you can have a heart attack...

Caffeine could affect your heart badly, b/c it's a stimulant. But if you have heart problems to the point that drinking 8oz of joe will mess with you, you probably shouldn't do both.

However if your heart's in good shape then you should consider drinking it for the benefits; caffeine raises your metabolism temporarily (part of the reason why so many drinks like Red Bull, Abb Tea, etc have obscene amounts).

As for me... I drink enough water as it is, the last thing I need is a diuretic... icon_eek.gif

When you start taking pre-workout supplement (eg. shotgun, superpump), you may want to skip the coffee cause they already add caffein to the product. But yeah caffein work wonder in giving focus/energy for the training, I don't like the taste of coffee too much so I just take a caffein pill when I am off the pre-workout supplement.

Yes go ahead and have that coffee. Studies indicate that caffeine before a workout improves focus and performance.

I have one cup in the late afternoon right before my workout every day

I've only started doing this recently but my pre-workout drinks have been coffee, chocolate whey, and glutamine. I've really seen a great increase in focus and energy in the gym. Also it's just a great tasting mocha-y drink anyway.

Yep, this was a Real Age Tip of the Day not too long ago. Somehow, coffee can reduce pain by interfering with your nervous system...in a good way. Still, I'd rather lift what I can handle and not cheat. I don't like being too sore in the morning.
