Do you look ethnically ambiguous?

It's a rather interesting phenomenon. There are many people who pass for numerous ethnicities (if they're multi-ethnic/multi-racial) or some who look nothing like their actual ethnicity.

A lot of people think I'm Asian at first glance, or at least part Asian. I don't have any Asian ancestry that I know of. I'm mainly Spanish, Catalan, English, and Basque. However, I'm well aware that my black hair and the shape of my eyes give me a rather Asiatic appearance, haha. Although no Asian has ever thought I was Asian icon_rolleyes.gif Oddly enough, my mom lived in Japan for a number of years despite not being Asian and having been born and raised in the US.

I definitely think I get it from my mother. She's the Hispanic one of my two parents. She can pass for just about anything. I remember when I was little living in Spain that my mom was asked to be Miss Japan for some international festival in our old town because she already had a kimono and the make up to look like a geisha. Surely enough, she looked quite Japanese!

My best friend from college also gets mistaken for at least partially Filipina because she has olive-toned skin. As far as I know, she's only German!

Haha, a few years in college there was some sort of Afghan culture celebration going on. I went to Starbucks on campus to get my caffeine fix, and surely there were quite a few Afghanis in line with me. One of them in front of me turned around and started speaking to me in Pashto. I made a funny face and replied: "Hablo español", and she laughed. That was the first time I had ever been mistaken for any ethnic group not in East or Southeast Asia :p

    I LOVE ETHNICALLY AMBIGUOUS PEOPLE!

When I went to Israel, people thought I was a pale Israeli.

In LA when I tan (which I don't do anymore because I don't want to die of cancer) I get Armenian or Israeli all the time.

Yep... I get mistaken for everything. l had to take a DNA test for a grad level art class that dealt with culture, art and identity. I found out I was pretty much a lil bit of everything. I really don't mind it and have really enjoyed looking into my cultural history. Fun stuff!

I can definitely see why people would think you are part Asian. Hell I've mistaken some Irish people for being part Asian!

As for myself, lots of people think I look Korean or even Japanese while I'm full Chinese, I've even had a couple guys ask me if I'm half white LOL, just because I'm tall and have a relatively light skin tone doesn't mean I'm not full Asian, but majority of people can tell I'm just Asian.

People tend to think I'm latino. It's funny because when people try to guess what I'm mixed with they always pick black and latino. I honestly don't think I look that mixed, but there are a lot of people out there that would disagree with me.

I'm 100% Filipino but I always get that I'm mixed; either white or black, or full Hispanic. But then again my name does sort of lead people on, Hector Miguel...Its the reason I go by JR in the first place.

Personally, I don't think so but at my job I come across various people from all parts of the world.

One customer thought that I looked part Latino and Black

Another customer an hour later thought one of my parents was white since I have "good" hair lol.

I had to tell both of them that I'm Black even though ethnically my grandmother was mixed (Black and English-Cockney) and great-grandmother was mixed (Black and Indian). I told them how I have family members that could pass for "white" and even I looked more mixed phenotypically during my toddler years since I had grey eyes.
