Disappointed with Real Jock...

Okay, this sight has confused me a bit. When I first signed up, I thought great! a sight that is devoted to health and fitness for the Gay community, were like minded Gay people can come together and have different views and likes but be bonded by the passion for health and fitness. A great counter balance to those that party to hardy and the clubbers.

It just seems like this sight is becoming like any other sight with people posting things like "Do you dye your hair", "What do you think of Glee", "Gay Stoners", etc; I mean don't get me wrong we are a diverse community and it's fun and okay to mix things up a bit but where are all the posts about fitness, health, suggestions, recommendations, advice? If it weren't for the RJ articles about fitness, work out plans, meal plans, news stories etc; this sight would be a bit lame. It seems like the sight originally started out for like-minded individuals who shared this interest but it seems as of late it's taken a turn.

So I throw it out there to you fellow Real Jockers...how passionate or to what level is health and fitness important to you? :-)

Hey! The thread I started yesterday morning turned into a forum about why I'm on this site now that I have a boyfriend ("Am I a slut?). A lot of guys here only see this site as a way to cruise. And that because I have shots of me with my shirt off, I can't possibly be interested in the fitness and diet articles and threads. All I can say is try to get what you can out of this site but don't expect too much. (I'm assuming you know that in Forums, there's a separate category for Fitness/Health threads. You won't find that stuff in "All Things Gay"...) -Nick

I agree. You click on FORUMS in the top menu bar and select the topic field you want; there's a good selection of member threads dealing with health, fitness, nutrition & sports. Plus RJ has it's own featured health & fitness topics on the main page (click the RealJock logo from anywhere on the site).

I do post a lot about general gay topics & politics myself, but I also post to Sports>Cycling and a few others. When I'm in Cycling that's all I see, no other topics (unless someone incorrectly posts).

If my pics don't answer that question, look harder. icon_wink.gif

As for the rest, it's entirely possible for someone to like GLEE, dye their hair, enjoy random hookups (or FWB's), and still be heavily involved with health and fitness.

PS. I just got back home from the Y...

I was going to mention something in the other thread that probably better belongs here. The question came up why someone with a partner would remain on the site and show pics. The site is much more than just cruising and picking up, and remains a diverse community with a common thread.

Along these lines, it can serve another purpose, using you, Nick, as an example, if that's ok. Say someone around Nick's age is either considering coming out or has just come out and lacks confidence and has many self-doubts. By going to this site, and seeing guys like Nick with fantastic looks and a great body, together with the character that comes across from his profile, the person can gain confidence knowing he will be in good company. Really what a community is all about.

You have to go to the fitness and health threads to find posts about fitness and health. There's plenty of tips and advice there if you look. The all gay section is usually a place to post about other stuff. I'm into fitness and health. but I also don't let it consume my life. I'm also interested in a lot of others things like photography. Balance is the key and it's great to have a variety of things to do. It's the spice of life to mix it up.

Then leave. Problem solved. ... icon_rolleyes.gif

And in all that free time you will have while not being on here, check out "sight," "site," and "cite" in the dictionary.

I agree with cas, if this site so ain't doing it for you leave!

This site really is what you make of it, for me, it's a great place to read a few articles, find lots of little tops and flirt with a bunch of very hot strangers...

Well, if you get out of "ALL THINGS GAY," go to the main page, and scroll down to FITNESS, you'd find 5 or 6 FITNESS categories from which to choose.

Also, please notice the title of this web site:
"REALJOCK GAY FITNESS HEALTH & LIFE"

There is also a search box in the forums.

Lets say you are more interested in "reps" than "glee"
Type "reps" on the search box and find 144 threads.
    Read through them.
Look at the picture of the person giving a particular advice and decide of you want to chance taking that person's advice and possibly wind up with similar muscles.

Repeat the procedure with "whey" or "sets" or "soy" etc instead of "reps"

Harsh, harsh, harsh... Perhaps he merely hasn't known how to fully use & exploit this "site" yet. A number of us have tried to tutor him above on how to find the stuff he wants. If he's only been reading threads from the home page he would indeed get a very different impression of RJ, that could tract with his criticisms.

As for misuse of homonyms, I just admitted in another recent thread they are my own downfall, too. I touch type very rapidly to a kind of silent self-dictation, speaking the words in my head as I compose, and for some reason that makes me prone to homonym errors, that my spell checker doesn't catch. Therefore I find it difficult to criticize others about it (unless it's someone I don't like... icon_twisted.gif )

Plenty of discussion on fitness, exercise and all "wellness" concepts.... and all sports and about everything else we might want to express. My view is that if you only want to focus on exercise.... read those parts of the forums and ignore this section.

You are, um, posting here so you must be reading. Some of those you mentioned I didn't read. Read what you want and ignore what you don't.

I have to agree with you.
When I signed up I did not even post a picture of myself, not because I am ugly or I am over weight (maybe 15lbs lol) but.
I was looking for guys that wanted to jock/bike and work out, there is alot of helpful info on this site and plans to help you, but if you have no one to help you out you dont get to far, but I have got good advice from alot of very nice people and this site as well.

RJ is like a buffet. Not every "dish" or feature will be to everybody's "taste". Take the best for you, and leave the rest.

Seed good threads in the forums that you find interesting and others of like mind will join in. Make an effort to stimulate discussion. You only get out of it what you put into it.

    Happy posting!

i think many guys have gown through that phase of slight disappointment.
Replies to the OP pointed to the other forums but they aren't very busy as he's obviously noticed before posting.
Thing is unless you've already tried your best to change things and increase participation in various fitness threads how can you criticize?

It is a bit surprising how little interest there is in sports, the Gay Games, etc., but it is what it is.

To the creators of this website, could we please have a forum named
    "Sports actualities" ?
where we could discuss all that is hapenning right now in hockey, baseball, tennis, football, etc. instead of scrolling down way at the bottom. That way,it would be some interesting sports postings and discussion about sports all in one at the top.So people like me who are dfinitely not here to flirt (seriously guys, you say you are not here to flirt but you post 30 pics of you in boxers and sexy pose and say they are not here to flirt???????) could enjoy the sports based forum.
Right now, sports based post get lost in the glee and lady gaga postings =(
    Thanks

if scrolling down to the bottom to find your sport of choice wears you out, you really do need some exercise

    heres a hint
find threads that you yourself have posted in with the forums search box for that purpose

Maybe you're blind,Im proposing something that would be sports News - all categories of sports, instead of going down to individual sports, where no one post anything

I think snowboarder is right in that the many divisions preclude a critical mass in any one of them.
No one wants to look through 20-30 categories in search of perhaps one new topic posting.
