I was born in Spain, and my ancestors are from Spain. So I'll have to go with Spain icon_smile.gif But I also like Argentina, England, Brazil, and Germany. I hope South Africa does well. I'm also curious to watch North Korea!

I've been an Oranje knvb.jpg supporter since young, from the days of Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten and "total football" to Dennis Bergkamp's "Wundergoal" to Ruud van Nistelrooj and the modern era.

They've always been a talented squad with a history of in-fighting and inexplicable chokes at big games, the most recent being their collapse against Russia in the 2008 European Championships. This year seems no different--star Van Persie has criticized teammate Kuyt, not to mention lots of uncertainty in the backfield. However, they have cruised to the finals on a 8-0-0 qualifying streak, so they at least look to be favorites to enter the second round.

Here are my predictions for the second round:

Group A: South Africa South%20Africa.png and Mexico Mexico.png
(a Zidane headbutt from hoisting the Jules Rimet trophy 4 years ago, Henry fails to deliver and Les Bleus makes another embarrassing first round exit)

Group B: Argentina Argentina.png and South Korea South%20Korea.png

    Group C: USA United%20States%20of%20America.png and England England.png

    Group D: Australia Australia.png and Germany Germany.png

    Group E: Netherlands Netherlands.png and Cameroon Cameroon.png

    Group F: Italy Italy.png and Paraguay Paraguay.png

    Group G: Portugal Portugal.png and Brazil Brazil.png

    Group H: Spain Spain.png and Switzerland Switzerland.png

After the second round, it's a crapshoot, as recent history indicates, anyone can reach the semi-finals. I'm going to go with South Africa (home team has reached the semis in the past several World Cups), Spain, Brazil and Australia (just because the Socceroos deserve some love after the way they exited in 2006).

I think Spain will take this one.

The vibe here (in Johannesburg) is amazing. Most buinesses are closing at lunch time so that everyone can watch the opening game. There have been cars hooting outside the whole morning. People are all dressed up and blowing their Vuvuzelas. There are flags hanging everywhere. The mood is really positive. The anticipation is getting pretty unbearable for mosty of us and you can feel the excitement in the air. Amazing!
