The Religious Right Targets Glee For Making Homosexuality Normal
    by Michael A. Jones June 04, 2010

"This show has presented gay as the 'new normal,'" Bozell writes, "and has not suggested, but presented that the abnormal people are the ones who adhere to apparently outdated Christian morality." Bozell goes on to gripe that the show only portrays people who are against homosexuality as "vicious school bullies," or giant meanies who would rather bust open the heads of many a queer kid.

i wish these religious right groups would focus more of their attention on the sin of eating shellfish. they completely ignored that sin. apparently God was so pissed off about it he unleashed his wrath in the gulf. religious right-wingers from maine---i hope you are paying attention. all kidding aside, if these religious right members spent less time chastising others, maybe they'd spend less time toe-tapping in the bathroom stalls.

God I love that show, even more if it's pissing of your christian nutters.
Mine are too busy baking pies to welcome their nazi leader to really focus on the gays...plus we're British we save the ranting for behind closed doors.

Just have to add my two cents about GLEE.

The show sucks and is totally stoopid. The actors who play high school students are all in their twenties. The actor who plays Finn is 28 - cut me a frickin break! The songs are ridiculously overproduced and way beyond the level of even the best high school vocal groups. The writing is totally melodramatic and Mr. Schu looks like someone hit him in the side of the face with a 2 by 4.

The only decent thing about the show is that it gives Jane Lynch a chance to shine. I say take GLEE off the air and give Jane Lynch her own half hour sit-com.

wow......dude. you're certainly entitled to your opinion but do you go to the theater and say, those sets are not real.....I can see the wires that make the guy fly?

drama involves some willing suspension of disbelief.....tho' you're right that the numbers are overproduced......I like them anyway, they're fun. it's entertainment, musicals have a tradition of inherent ridiculousness.

as for age, maybe it's because I'm almost 53 but 28, 18, you at 22.....you're all puppies, not much difference between you from this point......maybe it's one of the gifts of getting older that you figure out that age differences don't really matter as much as we thought they did back at your age.....

Hey, it's only a show. It entertains the audience, that's enough. I love this show, and Finn's cute. icon_biggrin.gif

I won't argue on the overproduction. But as for the age issue, a little critical thinking might be in order. Do you really for one second believe they could have found an ensemble of 16 year olds that could act their way out of a paper bag? Yeah, they tried that before. It was called Saved by the Bell. You might have to google it because you've been around, what, a minute or two?. And while a couple of those cast member might have turned into passable actors in later years, they sucked shit every fucking second the series was in production. In fact, there are current networks with a plethora of shows consisting of underage ensemble casts. Yeah, I really want to see Suite Life of Zack and Cody, iCarly or That's so Raven in prime time.icon_rolleyes.gif

you know, it's kind of bad to see the replies to the response to his post by older gay men who are trying to pull the wise sage card. yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion and a critique but your age is nothing but a number not
a true measurement of wisdom or maturity.

i think Glee is overproduced and silly too.
i actually think its not "ethnic" enough.
and contrary to what others say about the underage actors
on other shows. there are a slew of talented young people
who can sing and act and dance on youtube and in the
world so the guy does have a valid point.

yes, i watched Saved By The Bell.
    yes, i watched Fame too.
i go way back, but i am not into musicals at all,
    but entertainment is just entertainment.

As far as the original content of this article.
Gay men rule now. Fuck, the Christian Right.
They ain't Christian, or about Love.

And for Two Cents keep adding your two cents in.
It's nice to see someone who doesn't always agree
with mainstream or contemporary views on here.
And let me apologize for my Old School Brethren who
should know better because at one point they were
young and treated like they knew nothing of the
world and must've forgotten what the hell that felt like.

your argument about the ages of the actors is absurd. any half way decent show about high school students has 20 somethings playing the parts. 90210 anyone??

OMG! Now the GLEE gay character so needs to join a church choir and show the church members embracing him as a gay member of the congregation!! Make it a Mormon or Catholic Church at that!!

That would be a bad ass response!

it is true high schoolers are almost never played by high schoolers. It is one of the reasons that few series start in freshman year of high school. 20 somethings can play 16 but 14 is a stretch

Glee is ridiculous, thats right and thats exactly what is so great about this show. The show is so much more then just about the Showtunes, it tries to get messages out and its doing a good job with this. May it be the Father of a Gay boy who defends his kid eventhough he still has trouble accepting it or the Girl who was denied to express herself through her clothes, but the biggest and most important message that they make clear every week is that no matter if you are a freak, you can still be happy without having to be normal.

I am a Freak from head to toe and I am glad that I didnĀ“t turn out "normal".

The death rattle is becoming less distracting.
