Do guys do "the towel dance" and cover up at the gay gyms?

It is hilarious how shy guys are at the gym. IT'S A LOCKER ROOM! And NObody takes a shower, they just throw on a jacket and go out hot, sweaty, and stinky... to their hot, sweaty, and stinky car. Ick.

So how about the "more predominantly gay" gyms in NYC, LA, Miami, Palm Springs, SF, etc. Do guys there cover up and change their underwear while wearing a towel?

So are you saying "gay gym" implies more nudity? I don't (and wouldn't) go to the gym mainly to look at other guy's junk in the locker room.

I never take showers at my gym... but that's because most of the time it's nasty in there.

I shower with my team after games, but never did after just working out. I stick to poor man exercises, pushups, pullups, situps, lunges.... all can be done at home.

Well, next time formally demand to see their privates and come tell us how well that goes. icon_rolleyes.gif

Seriously, what business is it of yours whether or not other guys in the locker room ever become fully nude or not? Because, your locker room peeping fetish aside, it's none of your business how another guy decides to use the locker room.

dude, you are a embarrassment to the gay population. you are the reason i never shower at a gym. i one of the ones that get my sweaty, stinky ass back on my bike and ride home to take a shower. what a douche

The whole reason why I stopped going to gyms is because of the gross cruisiness of the whole shower scene. First, I just stopped showering there, hopped on my bike (we don't all have cars to stink up) and showered at home. Eventually, I said "fuck it", bought some weights and started working out at home. Much much better.

I don't cover up nor engage in exhibitionism. I just undress, take my shower, and get dressed again in clean clothes. I don't really care whether or not other people look.

I should have been more clear. I don't go to a "gay" gym. But I hear places like Equinox, David Barton, and NYSC can all be very gay. I make use of the NYC Recreation Department facilities, which are very cheap and not so cruisy. That's not why I'm there.

Ummm, I don't shower in my gym because I'm shy to get naked in front of the men. But rest assured that as soon as I walk into my apartment I take a shower and scrub myself with baby Johnson. I always do wonder if the guys in the locker room that see me change instantly after working out think I'm dirty.. It's like I wanna go up to them and be like I swear I'm going to take a shower as soon as I get homeicon_redface.gif

Just wondering why you created this post today when you created this same discussion on May 9th one month ago today and had 65 responses?

    Or am I missing something?

This thread's been done before. Some guys just don't feel the need to let it all hang out. Does it really matter? I get that you're gay and like to check out other guys, who doesn't, but some people are really modest.

Damn fucking right! The locker room is for changing out of your street clothes and into your workout clothes. After you workout you get undressed, shower, dry off and then change into your street clothes. There is no need to be cruising the gym nor the locker rooms! If one does not get fully naked so what, some guys are shy others aren't.

Ditto. And why does anyone still care? If a guy doesn't want to parade around in the buff that's his business. Let's start worrying about more important things, shall we?

...I shower at the gym if I work out and then go out...but if I don't have any where to be after the gym...I drive my ass home and shower there and then relax...

...I mean who the hell cares?...

speaking of nudity at the gym, this huge guy was at the gym (height i mean). seriously as soon as you walked in, just standing there looking at himself in the mirror naked. I wondered why he couldnt wait to get home to do that. it seriously makes me want to wear murphy blinds!

ps, what you refer to as the towel dance, we do here all the time. i grew up surfing, you learn to be quick at changing under a towel (: especially on those windy days or when youre parked on PCH and its rush hour (:

I just found a gym a couple days ago (Miami area) that I'll be joining once my summer out-of-state contract is done. During the tour, I noticed the guys tend to be very comfortable being naked in the shower and locker room. It's a privately-owned yet very large gym where everybody knows everybody...been in business 33 years, and most workers have been there over 10 years. The personal trainers all have college degrees in Kinesiology, and a few of them are National Pro BB'ers. The owners still model fitness professionally in their 50's, and their son is very hot and nice. Oh and it was voted "Best Gym in Miami" by New Times mag in 2009.

So yeah, I now know of one gym in the Miami area that has guys who are comfortable with being nude around other guys, regardless of sexual orientation.

PS. It is not a "predominately gay" gym; but it is very gay-friendly. Then again, a non-gay-friendly gym around here wouldn't last very long. icon_wink.gif

I thought I remembered this subject from before.
    horrible memory...
    Blondes always have more fun...
I did you before? really? Damn was it good?

Funniest gym I have ever gone to was in Florida.
It so catered to the Modest of the Modest.

Showers and Sauna were swimsuit only.
and private changing stalls with lockable doors, that were not connected
so there were no perverts drilling holes in the walls to take a peak

90% of the members were over 65 and waaaaay over-weight..
and hardly did any exercise.. it was always really busy but mostly people sitting around on the machines yacking with the fat guy sitting next to him.

Personally I am not that modest in a gym or public setting.
Ironically I am completely modest in a personal setting. ie. no private fotos.
    each to his own.

There is a gym for everyone!
