So what media player do you use?

My hard-drive died recently. Luckily I had my mp3s backed up, but whereas I used to use iTunes, on my current system I don’t have it. My tech guy said it taxes system resources too much and recommended I don’t reinstall it. I’m not a big Apple fan anyway, so I’d like an iTunes alternative for that reason too.

But I’m using Windows Media Player now for my mp3s and it’s horrid. The worst problem I’m having is that it doesn’t have a way to equalize the songs’ volumes. I also miss the iTunes cover flow (or whatever it was called). What media player do you guys use? Should I go back to iTunes and just give up on not being dark-sided (heh)?

I've been a Winamp user since version 1.0, and I haven't found a media player for audio files that I like better. IMO, iTunes is one of the worst; one reason I have Parallels and Win 7 on my Macbook is so that I can run Winamp on it.

Will Winamp allow me to equalize the playback volumes? I'm not sure I'm using the right verb, but iTunes had a feature where it would automatically make the louder mp3s play more quietly and the quieter mp3s play more loudly. I guess that feature's my main need. The mp3s I have are all over the place in terms of volume.
