Celebs are caught in the Catch-22.
Rather than use the "Royal We", that tends to get abused when talking about gay issues and the entire population of gay people.. I'll just keep it strictly "I"
I want celebs to be open about their sexuality. I hope that it levels the playing field to a point where there's no need to hide because of very understandable career fears. Being gay in entertainment still isn't 100% foolproof. It's either a means to an end or immediate relegation to supporting roles/spots.

At the same time, we (the gays) criticize them for coming out because there's always an ulterior motive. Better yet, we can always find an ulterior motive for them. "Oh, she just wants to get noticed because she hasn't put out an album in years." "Oh, he wants to boost his upcoming record sales." "Wait, who was she again... and why do we care about her alleged girlfriend."

I will admit, I snore every time someone "comes out'. It does feel contrived sometimes. Being gay or coming out, really doesn't have any zing. There's nothing shocking about it anymore.

Are we more sympathetic to people who have an authentic sounding back-story?

Should celebs just keep their sexual preference to themselves anyhow, and if the public finds out.. they found out?

Do celebs tell people first just to dull the embarrassment of say TMZ breaking the story first?

    Thoughts Thoughts Thoughts?

Any high profile career is going to get tabloid coverage, and every little aspect of their life is going to be exposed. It's best that they "come out" now while nobody gives a fuck. If they stay in, they're just hurting themselves by making themselves into a liar when the paparazzi finds out and snaps pics of them with their same sex partners.

We roll our eyes at or tear into every person that comes out publicly. We all "come-out" at our own times. Who are we to want them to rush them out of the closet just because they're going to be in the public eye? Are they actually lying, or just hiding like the rest of us normal people do?

And there's still this hiring stigma out there - being gay isn't always a big plus in the entertainment business. I'm just wondering, what would it take to tear down those kinds of walls?
