article belowAt a Memorial Day service honoring fallen troops at the Desert Lawn Cemetery in Yuma, AZ, Mayor Al Krieger decided that it was appropriate to denigrate the brave LGBT men and women who have served this country:

"I cannot believe that a bunch of lacy-drawered, limp-wristed people could do what those men have done in the past."

    Story at http://thinkprogress.org/2010/06/10/mayor-limp-wristed/

I somehow think there have always been homosexuals that have served and died for this country, and I don't think they were limp-wristed .. on memorial day of all days icon_rolleyes.gif

Yeah, I was so limp-wristed I was the top soldier in my Basic Training company, getting an immediate accelerated promotion. Made PFC/E-3 just 5 weeks later in AIT, but only kept that rank for 3 weeks, before making E-4. Sergeant E-5 was tougher, took me another 14 months, during Vietnam... LOL! And eventually all the way to Colonel, only my health stopping me at 25 years. Apparently a limp wrist is an advantage.

As for lacy underwear, I only knew one soldier who wore them, a STRAIGHT, married First Sergeant/E-8 cross-dresser with children, who sometimes also wore a bra under his uniform. He's already had 2 tours in Iraq last I heard. I used to meet him in our gay club, when he and some of his "lady" friends would come in for their monthly get-togethers. None of them gay, just cross-dressers who felt safer in a gay club.

Seriously, GLBT troops have fought and died for the US, and what this clown said is disgraceful. I know the don't-you-dare-say-anything-negative-about-Arizona crowd here won't like this comment, but isn't the pattern with that backward State becoming clear? What more evidence of hostile bigotry and prejudice do you need? Rather than merely boycotting it, Arizona should be cordoned off from the rest of decent civilization.

Well I am glad that at least a few have taken interest and note the irony of bigotry of this incident.

A very sad and disgusting story.

On a bright note, here is a story about some great supporters of ours:

My great uncle was gay and died fighting in WWII. He held his position to cover the escape of his comrades. He was captured by the Japanese and died in a prison camp after enduring the March of Bataan.

No, but he does represent a majority that elected him.

QUOTE AUTHOR GOES HEREThat idiot shouldn't be in Arizona. He put us all to shame.

Unfortunately there seems to be a surpluss of such people in Arizona at the moment (not that we want them elsewhere, but there must be something in the air or water over there).

Your great uncle is our hero! I'll be so embarrassed if I were in Al Krieger's shoes. That idiot shouldn't be in Arizona. He put us all to shame.

    Thank you, skydrkhair.

What's really weird to me is that he was talking about veterans...and on Memorial Day, we are remembering fallen veterans. So he is hating on fallen veterans who happen to have been gay ... icon_eek.gif ... WTF?

That's despicable. What's with Arizona lately? They've been on the front lines of controversial statements and policies.

I just wrote the Yuma Sun and asked what, if anything, was going to be done about the mayor disrespecting fallen veterans who just happened to have been gay.

    Question.

If you talk about Russia before the communist revolution, St Petersburg is still St Petersburg. But if you talk about it during the the communist occupation it's Leningrad.

So if you have a guy who is serving in the military with a wife and kids, and he latter comes out leaves them, and lives the gay lifestyle.

Can he go back and talk about serving in the military as a gay man, when he was serving as a heterosexual with a wife and children?

See that is what I am saying. People like your uncle should be remembered Honorably and not slandered like that Mayor did. I am sure that there more like your Uncle that we will never hear about.

Thank you for posting about your Uncle BTW. For all that he suffered, his sacrifice should never be called into question by a stupid a Mayor in Yuma.
