If you wanna go from never-worked-out to showing results quickly, I'd suggest hiring a good trainer. Even then it's still going to take time since your muscles will have to adjust to the new workloads before any results are shown...supplements or not.

    1. A good sports multi-vitamin (i.e. GNC's Mega Man Sport)
    2. Watch and Revise your diet if needed, or if you haven't done so.
    3. Increase your protein intake / invest in a GOOD protein shake (pre and post workout)
    4. Hire a kick-ass personal trainer. (S)He will definitely know how to help you reach your long term goal.
    5. DEDICATION!!!

It depends on what your actual "muscular, toned" goal body is, but your time frame might be unrealistic. You'll see some awesome newbie gains but you aren't going to get jacked in 3 months.

I'd not use any supplements other than maybe a good multivitamin (I'd not buy GNC's overpriced stuff though; you can get equivalent stuff for a fraction of the price elsewhere). Learning to eat well and enough would be better than trying to find a magic supplement.

Vitamins and read up some articles on Bodybuilding.com

if possible ask someone who's fairly built in the gym how they got started. Usually these guys will point you in the right direction, usually. icon_smile.gif

    1) A good pland and a good trainer
    2) Healthy diet
    3) Vitamin/mineral complex
    4) Proper and full rest

Look for a good book on nutrition and a good one on training. To tell if they're good, see what education & experience the author has. Avoid fads.

You don't get big on supplements; mostly they just make expensive urine.

    Train well, eat right.

    Good luck!

I wouldn't jump right into supplements, they'll just steal your money away. Get a trainer that can help plan workouts that will help for strength training and eat a well-balanced diet. Eat excellent protein sources like chicken, turkey, beef, pork, eggs, and milk. You should be consuming around 1.5g of protein/kg body weight. And remember to drink lots of water.

1 eat lots of food (smaller more frequent meals)
2 work the muscles until they get tired, and increase lifting weight every week (10 lbs/week)
3 whey protein for post workout, casein at night (it absorbs slowly)
    4 multi vitamin
5 try to mix some cardio into your lifting

    good luck!

The best thing you can do right now if you're a newbie is focus strictly on drinking good quality protein 30 minutes after lifting.

Also make sure to eat small meals (300-500) calories meals every few hours, this is vital if you want to grow. Make sure your meals our quality food, lean proteins and complex carbs.

Other than that just focus on intense lifting routines then worry about supplements later :-)

    Good luck!

Supplements are like Vegas. Pay your money and go home broke. There is nothing you can get from them that you can't get from a good balanced diet. The guy who said you just get expensive piss is so right. They are a $60 billion dollar industry that has no oversight and do not have to prove that they work. Snake oil, 2010. Eat a good diet, and work hard.

These are the steps that I took, and I think this was over the course of a year or two, but you can do whatever:

    1) Increase lean meat intake
    2) Add in protein powder (buyer beware- Body Fortress is cheap, but it tastes like shit)
    3) Take multivitamins
    4) Take creatine, but drink your body weight in water.

    Hope that helps! icon_smile.gif
