My boyfriend had a droid, hated it. His brother now has the newest droid, hates it too. He had it for about a week and it fucked up, had to get a new one. Two weeks later, another one.

The irresponsibility of the droid market is what kills it. It lures you in with all these great apps but it doesn't tell you that their code can fuck your phone up because they do not regulate it and thus will slow down your phone and make some things just not work for it.

They both now have iPhones and love them. :/

Apple gets criticized for being complete control freaks over developers... but let's face it, there's a good reason for it.

If this Frankencar is a Droid:

    Then this is an iPhone:

I think it looks awesome! And I'm so ready to replace the G1 right now.

(and why do Apple fanbois always have to hate on everyone else then complain if anyone says anything bad about Apple? Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot. :p)

Was I hating? Shiny made an observation that applications on the Droid fuck the phone up. I was agreeing with him, saying Apple keeps tight control over software development just for that reason. Feeling a bit defensive lately??

There are dozens of task managers on the app market, add the button to your home screen, tap it, and any third party apps running get shut down.

It really is that simple icon_smile.gif

I love my droid and the market is amazing. I really have no complaints and everyone I know who has one, likes it over the Iphone.

Your visual example was clearly not merely an "observation"

It seems pretty big, I'm curious if that's just the size of the hand we're comparing it to?

He had all of them he could find, they both did, they still got messed up. And the battery length would be at 50% before they were even done with their work day. It just wasn't as impressive as they played it out to be. That is all. Nothing against them because I think their product could be revolutionary, but they really do lack in the places that they say are better.

I only own an iPod. Not a fan boy. That would be my boyfriend.

The Droid (and any Android device for that matter) is more easily messed up because you can simply DO more with it. And when people have more options, of course there will be apps and programs that "mess up" the OS. Although I'm not too sure what you mean by "fuck up your phone". My Droid is rooted and I've installed applications left and right and it runs fine.

This Droid X looks wonderful, however the fall should bring around some much more interesting phones. HTC is planning a 1.5 ghz phone and Motorola a 2 ghz phone before the end of the year. Both Android of course.

Both of theirs had to be taken back to the manufacturer and apparently it was a common problem for the phones to experience so much of a slow down to where it would just quit working. By the way, they were even frugal with what they downloaded. Even when they deleted all of the stuff off the phone that they had put onto it, nothing ended up changing.

All I'm saying is it leaves a lot to be desired and quite a bit to be worked on for what they promise.

I've had absolutely no problem with my Droid Incredible but then I check out the apps I download and verify what permissions they require. That said, I was kind of upset when I learned about the X. To me, it really is an impressive phone and I could adjust to the size of it. However, I think I ended up with the right phone for me.

Still, cheers to any X owners there! You've definitely got an awesome gadget.

I've got an EVO and I love the thing. The Android Market has a lot of dumb apps, yes, but there are plenty of well-done ones, too. You can usually figure out the difference by the comments and ratings. Also, unless your phone is rooted, in theory an app shouldn't be able to irreversibly screw up your phone.

This is one of the downfall of being in Canada. As much as I like playing with polar bears and baby seals, I want to get to play with shiny new toys too.

I've had my droid for about a year now and love it. Never had a problem with it or any of the applications. People download any and everything just show that they have a lot of apps on their phone and they don't even use it. Just with the iphone users they download all these apps half of which they don't use. I would get the droid X if they didn't want so much or if i was due of a fan upgrade. I just refuse to be like some of the iphone users and get the latest version as soon as it comes out paying $400 for it just to say i have the new iphone. I have no problem with apple or google i just don't like At&t's service
