    1) You have nothing to be ashamed of.

    2) Nobody else cares if you shower naked at the gym.

    3) You could shower in your swimtrunks.

    4) You will have too go in there yourself and look. Odds are they have towel hooks very near the shower.

Visit a nude beach or other clothing optional environments.
You'll get over that childish "OMG I'M NEKKID" feeling really fast.

Paranoid? ...about what? ...Being naked in a men's locker room??? ... icon_eek.gif ... You gotta be kidding me. ... That's what a locker room is for ... to change and shower and some of that time, you are going to be naked. ... If anybody (including you) has a problem with that, then they (including you) have a problem.

Communal male nudity is HEALTHY, and a necessary part of maturation and growing up into adulthood.

Locker room nudity was common "back in the day" with P.E. classes in junior high and high school, and college. And talk about boot camp and the military... no privacy there. Everybody was an equal.

I was a little nervous when I was in seventh grade, but got over it quickly. You can too, and you SHOULD, for your own mental health. Time to man up.!

Today some of my best friends are my naked budds. We can hang out together in a yoga class, watching a movie, going camping and hiking, at the beach, diving, or just chilling. There is no sex, and no thought of sex. Well, maybe... but it never happens.

For more on casual male social nudity, and especially locker room nudity, back then AND today, check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/YMCAnaked/

I know I am 44, but when I was in Junior High we started having to shower after gym class. At that age you felt a little uncomfortable, but at my age...it is just common. Everyone has a body under their clothes. I don't get the younger generation and their fear of being nude. I don't know if it is because of the fear that has been instilled in the younger generations or what. Everyone thinks that they are being stared at. Yeah, every so often a someone will take a peak at your cute butt...so what?

I was always very shy about the locker room when I was in school too. But when I went to Japan on an exchange program one of my first experiences was being taken to a Japanese bath....the son of my host family was taking me because he wanted to "hang out". He had no idea how badly I was freaking out about this on our way to the bath house, but I felt like I had to go (the exchange program had programmed us to "go with the flow" and to try and assimilate to our host culture as much as possible).

It ended up being one of my most, educational, relaxing and memorable experiences in Japan and I ended up going several times to the baths as well as to several hot springs (even one that was co-ed).

It was totally non-sexual even though we were all naked together (we even washed each other's backs, which is common over there). It felt very natural to be naked in front of others -- for the first time in my life. Although there is an impression that Japanese are more formal and stand-offish, they are not at all shy about nudity.

I always thought it was strange that I had to leave the US and go to Japan to get over my shyness (I tend to get naked at the drop-of-a-hat now).

Almost 100% sure that there will be hook or something for you to hang your towel on. Next time you go to the gym, there is no problem with going into the shower area fully dressed to check it out...see what it's like, whether or not you need to bring your own shampoo, etc. and plan your strategy for next time.

Shame over your naked body is a mental health issue. I'm amazed at the number of guys that spend hours in the gym to tone and build every muscle and then are embarassed and appauled to think that anyone wants to look at them. What's that all about?
Little kids and people in many foreign countries find nothing shameful about the human body. The US needs to move out of the Victorian era and develop a more healthy attitude about ourselves and our bodies. Then, we won't be so repressed and so sex obsessed, either.
Grown men showering with bathing suits on because they don't want anyone to see their "pee-pee" or whatever else they're hiding...now isn't that enlightened?!?!?
Grow up and get over it...we weren't brought into this world with clothes on...

Yes, there will be some place where you can hang a towel - there has to be at least something for soap, etc. and there will probably be a hook or somewhere to hang it over.

I can understand nudity per se being a bit daunting, but after sport I find it ridiculous. If you have been playing a sport, no matter what - tennis, football, wrestling - you have just spent the last hour rolling around, getting dirty or sweaty, next to other guys, wearing only shorts and a t-shirt, which have probably been pulled this way and that. So surely the natural thing to do next is to discard the two flimys envelopes covering your body? If you have been wrestling with a guy wearing a gi or singlet, then you have been in much more intimate situations with him than both of you showering a couple of metres apart, believe me, so changing next to him is surely the least intimate part of it all.

Just go ahead and shower and pay no attention to anyone else!

PS I think communal showering at a gym is a privilege, especially if the trainers also use it, because it lets you see what you should strive for free of charge!

It is different though for some people. I think I have an alright body and have no problem taking off my clothes for a hot guyicon_smile.gif I just don't like RANDOM people to know what my body looks like. To me and the OP its a more personal thing, so I can understand. But maybe it is immature idk

Random people at the gym probably won't care one way or the other. Why should you? After a workout most people are focused on the idea of getting cleaned up, getting out, and getting something to eat as soon as possible. Hence the few seconds it takes to go from your locker to the shower isn't going to be interpreted as an invitation to an orgy -- unless you happen to be working out at the baths.
