I was talking to my best friend about how a guy in one of my classes (and then the people around him) pointed out that I have such a nice handwriting. She said, "yes you do, it's totally a gay thing." I was like hmm...maybe, maybe not. I am a writer, artistic, etc, so that might contribute. But do you think having a nice handwriting is a "gay" thing?

Do YOU have a nice handwriting?

Handwriting is really a "brain print" and reveals a lot about your psychological state of mind.

The OP's good handwriting could be the result of the masculinization of his brain. Female develop fine motor skills before boys. Therefore, he may have had better motor skills when cursive was taught in school and learned in more easily. Straight boys often learn to hate cursive, because it is taught before they are physically able to do it.

I have impeccable handwriting I was told. My art teacher used to make me do calligraphy to write her name and stuff on official documents just because I do it flawlessly without the special markers.

I don't know why, but I usually never write outside of cursive. It's just my nature I suppose.

I've been told that I have really nice handwriting; I actually got this compliment last night, as a matter of fact.

I'm not sure that it's a "gay thing" however. I have a couple of gay friends that have atrocious handwriting. One of them is left-handed, though, so maybe it's not really fair to include a disabled person in this conversation. icon_lol.gif

Unfortunately, my ability to write clearly did not translate at all to any type of artistic prowess. I can't even draw a legitimate stick figure.

I used to have very florid handwriting, virtually calligraphy, and could forge my mother's signature, as she could mine. With age, hand tremors and some loss of motor skills my scrawl has become quite sloppy, and some days I can barely write at all. Here's a look today:

Hey Tim, did you steal this note pad off my desk? It looks just like my penmanship, quick, hurried and like a guy (nextdoor) wrote it. Legible, but not as pretty as a girl's. That said,, I know a few girls that write sloppier than me, so there's no real stereotyping going on here. I do see better penmanship in most girls though.

If I slow down a lot, I can write very nicely. Sometimes it so bad no one else can read it but me.

Nice handwriting?! Ha ha! I'm lucky if I can even read what i wrote, and I wrote it!

That's what too many years of formal schooling will do to you back in the dinosaur days of no laptops. Took too many notes. That's my excuse.

Very interesting responses! I guess it does depend on the individual, etc.

I have been told countless times that I have really nice handwriting.
But, ever since I started using a computer, I don't write much of anything, anymore.

No, I was once told I have serial killer handwriting. Sometimes it's beautiful, sometimes it's unreadable, usually in the same paragraph. The direction I pitch the letters changes all the time as do the way I put the tails or loops on letters.

The majority of the time, it's not my penmanship that's an issue, it's comprehension. I write and take notes in multiple languages. As I'm thinking, whichever word/phrase is quickest to mind is the first one that makes it to paper. Most of the time, people don't really bother trying to understand my notes.

When I'm in American English mode, I tend to have a slanted writing style, leaning towards the upper right. My "f's" look like elongated "s's" (look at the penmanship stylistics of the Constitution for an idea) and I usually write continuously without breaking continuity of the word, if possible. My "s's" also have a little tale end that goes through the middle.

I grew up with horrible handwriting. I learned cursive all right but I made no effort to make it look nice, and I ended up having a half-cursive, half-print scrawl.

But my handwriting was recently complimented by a fellow student, so it must have gotten better...?

My handwriting is very neat and tidy, like what a printer does in Century Gothic font of Microsoft Word ...

... probably because of my training in architecture. No, my handwriting was neat even before that.
