I consider myself to be a relatively peaceful, easy-going person. I do not get angry easily nor do I condone violence.

However, the drivers out here make me want to consider doing things that I would most-likely regret later on. I want to kill almost 5 people on the road every day! Does anyone else have this issue? The drivers here are just in their own little world with no sense of urgency or regard for other people on the road. Hmm, I'm in the far-right lane in heavy traffic but that's no reason not to cut across 4 lanes of cars to make a sharp left-hand turn icon_razz.gif

Reach in the bag and grab a clue!

Also, I'm just used to drivers on the east coast who drive like maniacs and don't go the speed limit in the fast-lane. In fact, the "fast lane" doesn't seem to exist out here, it just seems to be another lane choice. Back east, people will brake-check you if you go any less than 10 mph over the speed limit in the fast lane.

Ok, I'm done venting. I don't have road-rage I swear, lol. I guess the slower-traffic makes things safer but people still constantly seem lost and appear to drive aimlessly.

    Maybe it's just me icon_razz.gif

funny -- my bf and i just arrived home from a weekend getaway and got an instant reminder of brooklyn: people cutting me off, drivers passing in the opposite lane in heavy traffic, 4 cars trying to manuver into one parking spot! not to mentiuon U-turns which are ubiquitous here; its as though no one ever thought of going around the block. ok it feel good to vent. icon_razz.gif

My main pet peeve about drivers here, is that they drive so slow in the left lane on the freeways. The left lane is for passing. It's not for:

    - Talking/texting on the cell phone
    - Putting your make-up on
    - Reading newspapers
    - Watching movies
    - The car pool lane
    - Your 4x4 full size dually truck, while towing a 40 foot boat

If you're driving slower than or the same speed as the cars in the #2 lane, then you need to move out of the #1 lane. I really wish the CHP would pull people over for this shit. Because honestly, slow drivers contribute to the traffic congestion we have here.

    My pet peeves?

    3. Not stopping at stop signs
    2. Driving crazy fast
    1. Driving on the wrong side of the road

Some people cannot wait for traffic to clear so they can properly enter a turn lane. Stupid crazy.

I get very communicative road irritation which occasionally develops into full blown road rage.

I think it in part stems from years and years of also waiting tables where I've had to share spaces with others who, like myself, have somewhere to be and things to do.

The three rules of thumb for working in any busy restaurant are:
    - Know your shit
    - Make yourself "small"
    - Move fast and get out of the way, especially if you are not the busy one

and when you work fine dining "do it with a smile, grace and looking effortless".

I don't drive to have a communal experience. Use your signals, yield the right of way/accept the right of way, get out of the way (mine and yours) and make your intentions clear. If you don't I'll honk to remind you that the car is no place to text and apply make-up. And I'm not averse to "telling you you're number one".

so... 'yeah' I get road rage.
    *ahem*
"How about those Lakers? They sure did pull it off 'eh?"

I grew up in Ohio, lived on the East Coast. I have also spent a lot of time in Europe and Asia. Drivers are really pretty much the same worldwide. 9 outta 10 drivers are courteous and very aware of the situation. It's that 10% that'll "get to ya". My one beef about California drivers is that you are NOT ENTITLED to park your freggin Esclade/Navigator/Ford350 in a compact parking space! (hiss)

I am working in Omaha right now and the drivers here infuriate the hell out of me.

They dont let you merge (so I force my way in).
They go 60 in the left lane. The speed limit is 60 but God dammit is a fucking freeway. GO!!

I hate being behind CA drives when they meander thru Arizona. The just cruise in the left lane and give you the finger when you honk or blink your light at them letting them know you are trying to go faster than they are. The speed limit is 75...GO at least that!!

there are definitely some moronic drivers out here, but overall i think people are very predictable on the road, which is about as much as you can ask for, in my opinion

The only reason the traffic is so slow is because of the volume of traffic here. You can't go very fast, once you start to go fast, there's more traffic. The traffic doesn't stop here. Plus the west coast is just a tad slower than the east coast. East coast to me atleast is very go go go, don't include los angeles in this mix, but the west coast is just slower.
