    Gay American Heroes Foundation

Had an opportunity to learn about this Florida-based group today, from its founder. I'd heard about it vaguely, but didn't know much about it, nor how many of my acquaintances are involved with it as board members and/or contributors, and a dozen of their business sponsors whose owners I know and/or patronize. We set up this meeting so I could demonstrate a donor & gift tracking database I operate for another non-profit organization, and offered my services free to get their own computer operations going. My partner also gave them pointers about fund raising, and likewise offered his own services as needed. What I didn't realize was that we would in effect be getting our own briefing from them in return.

I provide their link above, so you can consider whether you would be interested in their organization and goals. The founder is very passionate about preventing and rectifying gay hate crimes. From their web site:

    Mission Statement

To honor and remember LGBT victims of hate crimes.

To engage and inform the public about hate crimes against LGBT persons.

To inspire compassion and greater appreciation and acceptance of diversity.

Thanks for that personal insight. He seemed to know who I am, or at least recognized me, which always surprises me when someone says that who's outside our circle of friends. In the past I've always enjoyed more anonymity than that.

He certainly seemed very sincere to me and dedicated to this cause. And he brought 2 others to our meeting who work with him, along with one of his principle backers, whom my partner has known for years.

I gave the demonstration at the Broward House downtown offices on 3rd, that I'm sure you know. I hope this works out for them, and as I said, I've offered to set this up for them and contribute time weekly to keep it current and produce reports and mailouts, just as I do for BH.

Yep, know all about this group. Have been myspace pals for sometime now and hopefully, if it fits into the schedule, will be at our Pride Celebration in October.
